Hate against Asian people and discrimination based on ethnicity especially against them has been on the rise recently and ever since the tragic events that happened in Atlanta where there was three mass shootings killing as many as 6 Asian women, people have started raising voices against Asian hate. There has been a plethora of rallying calls from the public, celebrities and sportspersons on the same.
In that vein, tennis players have also lent their voice to the fight against Asian hate. Today, tennis players from both the ATP and WTA tours came together and featured in a video where they spoke out and condemned the discrimination against Asians. Players like Naomi Osaka, Kei Nishikori, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and Madison Keys featured in the strong and hard-hitting video.
Naomi Osaka hits out at attacking and diminishing Asians
Japanese tennis ace Naomi Osaka who was the main players featured in the video also took to Twitter to further voice out her opinions on the issue. She spoke about how people enjoy things that come out of Asia such as the food and the entertainment but then go on to attack the people of Asia and ethnic groups.
She wrote, “If people loved Asian people as much as they love bubble tea, anime, mochi, sushi, matcha etc… Imagine profiting/enjoying things that come from a culture and then attacking/diminishing the ethnic group that created it.”
Osaka’s tweet is clearly a straight-talking, hard hitting and completely true one that completely makes sense and calls for the urgent need to stop Asian hate.
