The 2024 NASCAR Cup season had some wild and controversial moments. One of those most dramatic moments was Joey Logano almost missing out on Round of 8, before making it into the finale and winning his third championship. Hendrick Motorsports played a significant role behind all this drama.
Alex Bowman initially was the driver to make it out of R-12, while Joey Logano missed out. But in the post-race inspection, the No:48 Chevy was found under weight and was disqualified. This gave the No:22 Penske team a second chance. While talking about it recently, Bowman admitted that he hates the fact that he and his crew gave their rivals the championship opportunity.
From different perspectives, it probably makes it worse. I hate that we gave them that opportunity, but we did, and they obviously capitalized on it and did what they needed to do.
Alex Bowman told AP.
He then went into give the credit where it is due, and pointed out that the championship win after that tough moment was a huge achievement from Joey Logano. The Ford driver got his chance and proved his worth.
Props to them for being able to shake off what they had going on and go win a championship that way. That was a big achievement for them.
Alex Bowman added.
Alex Bowman asserts he had no control over the whole drama
Earlier talking about the same moment, Bowman pointed out that he had no control over what happened on that day and there was nothing his team could do about it. All he could do was to move on, which his team is now focused on.

It wasn’t anything that I had any control over. There was nothing anybody could do about it. There’s no way to change it. All we really could do was move on and keep digging. It would have been nice to not have that happen, obviously.
Alex Bowman said.
The No:48 team is coming into the 2025 season with extra pressure on their shoulders, as he has been the worst performing HMS driver in the Next-Gen era. So, making it into the championship-4 or securing multiple wins, should be their priority this year, with his career almost on the line.
