The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season so far hasn’t been kind to Alex Bowman. He is close to marking a two-year winless streak if he can’t win in the next two weeks and is placed P29 in the championship table with just 231 points. One major reason for the disappointing results were four races he missed this year owing to vertigo.
There has been rumors in the community that suggest that this might be Bowman’s final year with Hendrick Motorsports, as over the last three years the No:48 team has failed to come close to his three teammates. Talking about these reports recently, the veteran insisted that he isn’t racing for a seat in 2026 and declared that he is focussed on getting the team back on winning ways.
I think for me, I’m just trying to do my part to try to help HMS be the best it can be right now. And obviously, trying to get things turned back around on the 48 side of things. I definitely don’t feel like I’m racing for my job or anything like that, by any means. So yeah, really just kind of week-to-week focused on trying to get pointed back in the right direction.
Alex Bowman told media ahead of Chicagoland race.
He confirmed that there has been multiple conversation regarding his future with Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordan. The final decision regarding his future would come sooner than later. Alex Bowman asserted that though a new deal wasn’t the primary focus for his entourage, they have been working hard behind the scenes to decide on the right direction for the future.
Obviously, we’ve had a lot of different conversations and kind of trying to figure out what the best thing to do is. So, I would say sooner rather than later for sure. But really, I guess I haven’t really thought about. It hasn’t been the first thing on my mind by any means, and I really just have been working hard at trying to get things pointed in the right direction, but definitely think sooner rather than later.

Further talking about the point, the veteran racer asserted that he understands how blessed he is to have a racing career and knows it wont last long. He is betting on the leaders of HMS making thru right decision for everyone involved. The star driver also highlighted how he doesn’t care about the social media buzz over his future uncertainty.
But honestly, I’m at a point in my life where I’m super blessed to be in a position where I don’t have to do this forever…I think I have a lot of faith in Rick (Hendrick) and Jeff (Gordon) and everybody to kind of guide all of us the right way… I don’t go on the internet, so certainly I don’t get wound up about things. I hear about it from other people… But on my side of things, I’ve kind of avoided the rumors.
Alex Bowman asserted.
Alex Bowman 2026 form has been confusing
In the same conversation earlier, the Hendrick Motorsports veteran talked about his struggles in the 2026 season. He admitted that he failed to hit the mark in the tracks where he was good in the past, while performing well on his weak venues. This has confused everyone in the No:48 team as they are having a difficult time finding the right direction for car development.

Yeah, we’ve just struggled. It’s been really, really interesting. The places that we feel like we should run well (like) Bristol, Kansas, Dover … places that we’re historically really, really good at, Dover caught me off guard. We were always fast there and we were really bad. And then places that we historically struggle at (like) Texas and Sonoma, we were good at, so that’s been confusing on that side of things.
Alex Bowman said.
The comments from the Chevy driver are on point and shows how unlike his fans, he has a clear understanding about his racing career is going to playout. At the end of the day, Bowman won’t have more than three years left in the top-tier with HMS, as there are too many young talents in Chevy that HMS can’t miss out on considering the other three seats are filled for long-time.
