The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season so far has been a nightmare for Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman. He clearly has been the worse driver at HMS, considering he failed to win a race unlike his teammates Kyle Larson (3 wins), William Byron (2 wins) and Chase Elliott (1 win). He made it into the playoff’s om points as the 16th best racer, with luck playing a significant role in it.

But Alex Bowman failed to take advantage of the luck, as after the first two races of Round 16, he found himself at P15, 35 points off from the cutline. He was able to secure just a P31 finish at Darlington and a P26 at Gateway on Sunday. The main reason for his underwhelming run has been his poor execution on the track as well on the pit-road.

The veteran was furious at himself over the result last Sunday and on his post-race interview lamented about their form. He admitted that his No:48 car has pace in the clean air, but as soon as they got into the traffic and dirty air came into the playoff, he struggled to extract pace. There was no escape from it for the veteran throughput the race.

Our speed was okay once we got out in the clean air after the field. But in dirty air, it was just really bad. And honestly, we just kept putting ourselves in dirty air every time. I know I pulled a steering wheel and pedals, but I didn’t speed on my side—it wasn’t like I lit up my lights too hard.

Alex Bowman told Tim Moore of Motorsports Today.

Further talking about the point, the veteran racer admitted that he is frustrated and disappointed with himself over the poor results. He pointed out that the embarrassing lack of execution has been the major reason for their struggle throughout the 2025 Cup Series season. The only thing he can do at the moment is move on and shift the focus to Bristol race.

So, yeah, I’m frustrated. We just can’t execute to save our lives right now. It’s pretty embarrassing, but all we can do is move on to next week. … We’ve just gotta go to work.

Alex Bowman added.

Alex Bowman still has hope of promotion with a solid Bristol run

In a separate interview, Alex Bowman shared his hopes for the upcoming Bristol race week. It’s a track where the Chevy driver has an average record. From 15 starts there, he has three top-5 finishes and a pole victory. But the average finish of 18.9 shows he has to execute better on the venue.

But the star driver has to keep grinding more, keep digging and produce results for the HMS crew that has been delivering him with good cars. So he is determined to use this advantage next week and get his team out of the mess they have found themselves in.

All we can do is keep digging. There’s a lot of people working really hard to continue to be better. I thought, race car-wise, we were heading in the right direction once we had some air on it. We just have to go to Bristol (Motor Speedway) and go to work.

Alex Bowman said via Catchfence.

The only way for him to get promoted into the next round is to win the race or score enough points, given the likes of Ross Chastain, Joey Logano, Shane van Gisbergen, Austin Cindric and Austin Dillon has a poor race. This puts his under a tremendous pressure for the upcoming races week at the iconic Bristol track.
