NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. and 2012 Cup series champion Brad Keselowski has a unique and strong bond that built around their time together at JR Motorsports. The RFK Racing co-owner played a major role in Junior’s JRM becoming a regular contender in the Xfinity series while the latter got the biggest break of his career.
Brad Keselowski was signed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. to drive for JRM in the midway to the 2007 season. The former was just a young driver with a back marker rider and in his two and half years with team he secured six wins and finished P3 in the championship twice. This impressive run helped Junior to make his team sustainable as they were losing a lot money over wrecks. Keselowski recalled Junior’s words about the same via Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour Podcast.
He [Dale Earnhardt Jr.] was like, ‘Man, that was one of the toughest times in my life. I had all the things going on in the Cup side, and the Xfinity team wasn’t going to make it. It was wrecking every week, we didn’t have cars, we’re losing a lot of money.’Brad Keselowski said via Happy Hour Podcast.
The No:6 Ford driver went onto highlighted that Junior told him that he was able to enjoy more time with his family after signing him. Dale Jr. reckoned that the team was alive again once Keselowski started getting them results.
And he says, ‘Man, you saved that team and made it something that lived. It wasn’t going to live. And he just told me how thankful he was for that and with all the other stress he had in my life that got kind of took off his plate and became something that could just live for him and his family and function. I’m proud of that and it meant a lot to me when he said that.Brad Keselowski added.
Brad Keselowski responds to two weeks Olympic break in NASCAR
The NASCAR series will have a two-week break during the month on July as part of the Olympics. Keselowski sees it as a huge opportunity for the drivers and their crew to have good times off with their family to refresh and reload for the last half of the season.
Everybody loves the Olympics. It’s great for our sport to get a break and not compete against the Olympics. Everybody wins. Just lock our doors for a week or two, all the employees go home, go on vacation, go spend some time with your kids, refresh, and kind of reload for what is the final half of the season.Brad Keselowski said.
This time off will also give the team enough time to prepare for the most important race of the season and solve issues they have been trying to get rid of. Also, this will give the NASCAR community more time to explore and appreciate the mega Olympics event.
