The 2022 season saw 2012 Cup champion Brad Keselowski exiting Team Penske Racing to join RFK Racing as a driver and minority owner. So far, the owner driver experiment has been a failure, as he won just one race in five years since in the start of Next-Gen era. Despite the struggles, many were expecting the veteran to end his days with the team in the Cup.

Now it has been confirmed that the ex-champion would leave the No:6 team after the 2026 season and is ready to explore the last chapter of his racing career. For RFK is going to miss their most marketable star big time. One positive from the exit is the fact that they don’t need to find a new charter to field cars for Ryan Preece, as they are set to lose their third charter at the end of the year.

I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished at RFK over the past five years and grateful for the people I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside, including at Roush Enterprises and Fenway Sports Group.

Brad Keselowski said via a statement.

Further talking about the exit, Brad Keselowski highlighted how much the half a decade spent with Jack Roush’s team means to him and highlighted how it was a bigger learning experience for him. This means in 2027, Denny Hamlin would be the only active driver who is also an owner, considering Jimmie Johnson is also set to have his final race in Cup.

So many great people have poured a tremendous amount into the competitive and technical transformation of this team and I’ll always value the relationships we’ve built, everything we’ve experienced together and what I learned as a co-owner and as the head of competition. I’m nowhere near ready to be done as a driver.

The exit doesn’t mean the veteran is done with racing. He has confirmed that he is looking forward to what the future has in store for him. According to reports, he might race full-time in the Truck Series next season. But there is also chances of a part-time career in the Cup if a full-time opportunity doesn’t materialize.

I still have a lot I want to accomplish in this sport and I’m looking forward to what comes next. I’m thankful for everyone who has been part of this journey and for the fans who continue to support me. I look forward to sharing future plans when the time is right.

RFK Racing will continue to operate under the ownership of Roush Enterprises, building on Jack Roush’s decades of success in NASCAR, and Fenway Sports Group…. (RFK) intend to collaboratively and mutually work through the appropriate next steps regarding his existing ownership interest in the organization, and the team supports his desire to explore his career opportunities elsewhere.

The comments from the champion driver are on point and shows how Roush’s team is ready to move on to their next racing chapter. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star drivers in the coming days.
