The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was scary experience of tow times Cup champion Joey Logano.  The team Penske driver came into the race hoping to continue his impressive run-off form, but just like for his teammate Ryan Blaney lady luck wasn’t on his side on Sunday.

On a restart late in the race, while attempting squeeze his way up the track, Spire Motorsports rookie Carson Hocevar hit Ryan Blaney who went on to make contact with Jimmie Johnson sending him spinning.  The No:84 Toyota collected Joey Logano’s No:22 ford which was running on the outside lane. Both veterans were forced to DNF because of the crash.

The incident took the Penske driver by surprise and he admitted post-race that it scared the hell-out of him as he never saw it coming. He admitted that Carson Hocevar can’t be blamed for going for the gap, but asserted that the rookie took it a bit far as he was a little greedy and it resulted in the big wreck.

It scared the hell out of me. It scared the hell out of me, never saw it. Just, I don’t know, I mean Carson had a good restart and filled the gap in the center and you can’t blame him for that, but he went for a little bit more, got a little greedy it seems like.
Joey Logano told Bob Pockrass.

Joey Logano hates the result for his team

The Ford driver admitted that he finds it disheartening that his team lost out on a god finish because of the crash. He admitted that they had a fast car and a good strategy to come out of the weekend with a good result before everything went south.

So, I hate it because I felt like our team did a good job of giving me a good Shell Pennzoil Mustang. One that was fast, we could run with the 11 there at the end of the stage, and we pitted right before the end of the second stage to try to cycle ourselves up.
Joey Logano said.

The No:22 team will take the next two weeks off, to freshen up their mind and get back to winning form once NASCAR returns from the summer break. It would be interesting to see how they will perform in the last 14 races of the season.
