The 2025 NASCAR Cup season opener was as chaotic as expected at the Bowman Gray Stadium, as the track lived up to its infamous nickname, The Madhouse. Chase Elliott secured the race win, defeating the Ryan Blaney and Denny Hamlin, who have him a strong fight with multiple bumps throughout the race.

The race featured many spins wrecks involving the likes of Kyle Larson, Willaim Byron, Kyle Busch, Carson Hocevar and more. One such incident was Bubba Wallace tagging 2012 Cup champion Brad Keselowski on lap 120, resulting in the veteran spinning out, costing him a solid finish. In his post-race interview the 23XI Racing driver admitted that he was being greedy and apologized.

I hate that I got into the 6 (Brad Keselowski). I didn’t want to get a top-five finish that way. He was doing everything he could to get down – and I got greedy and wanted to fill the hole. I really didn’t think I hit him that hard, but obviously I did, so apologize for that.

The No:23 Toyota driver was able to take advantage of the situation and went on to score his first top-5 finish of the season, as well as the second-best Toyota of the day behind his boss Denny Hamlin who secured P3. It seems Keselowski took it as a normal racing incident, as he didn’t come out criticizing Wallace for it.

Bubba Wallace feels it was a good day for him at Madhouse despite not liking the car

In the same interviews, Wallace also talked about his whole feelings about the race and asserted that it was a good day for him. He then admitted that he didn’t like the car that was given to him, as he had work extra hard to charm out the results and also pointed out that he needs to work more on saving this type of tire while racing.

But all-in-all, a good day for our Leidos Toyota Camry. We start off the season with a top-five. Does that count? We will count it. All-in-all, a good day – we were still missing it on something. This tire was also from Martinsville in the fall. I didn’t like the car then. I don’t like the car now, but you have to fight for it. I need to look back on what I need to do better with this tire.

The star TRD driver coming into season hoping for redemption, after missing out on playoff last year owing his winless run while his teammate Tyler Reddick won regular season championships and made it into the season finale. It would be interesting to see if the No:23 can use the Top 5 momentum and convert this to a win earlier in the season.
