23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace is one of the most criticised racers in the NASCAR social media space, sometimes for valid reasons, but often due to hatred some have against the driver owing to the past controversies he has been part of. That’s the main reason the Toyota racer seldom avoids using social media and see conversation about him.

Ahead of the Richmond race, the TRD driver talked about this and admitted that he recently went back to social media out of curiosity and the experience wasn’t pleasant. In the same conversation the only Africa American racer in the elite division asserted that he is really disconnected from his personal page, due to the toxicity.

I was off social media for probably the first four months of the season, maybe longer… You can only go through the banking app and photos app so many times where you want to see what your friends are doing. So, yeah, I got back on there, but no, I’ve genuinely disconnected from my professional page for sure.

Bubba Wallace said ahead of Richmond race.

He then shifted his focus to the haters, who criticize him for all the wrong reasons and mocked them highlighting the fact that most of the people who call him out online have never even been in a race car, making their words worthless. At the end of the day, Bubba Wallace understands there is no real way for him to avoid such comments other than avoiding the space all-together.

I mean yeah, it’s just when you sit there and you read that stuff and you tell yourself… ‘Has anybody ever climbed in a race car?’ So, the words really don’t matter. But that’s not going to stop it. No. That’s part of it. Yeah, you’re never catching up. It is what it is.

In a separate conversation ahead of the race, the veteran also talked about his current points table situation. He is in the bubble, as he often has been in the Next-Gen era, and is not happy about being the 14th placed team despite having a strong car at the start of the season. One thing that is different though he is not in the same level of stress he used to have been in the same situation.

When we run well, it’s top five or six, and when we don’t speed on pit road, there’s a potential of winning, which we had last weekend. So, as a bummer of a day that we had last weekend, we gained eight points (on 17th place). No one on our team is happy about being 14th, and we definitely had higher expectations than that coming into the year, but as far as the stress of here we are again, it looks the same but the mentality, for me at least, is different. No stress.

Bubba Wallace said.

One key challenge ahead of him are the remaining two races in the regular season, Loudon and Daytona. NHMS has always been a hit or miss for him and though he has been good on a Superspeedways, it’s a wildcard race.

The biggest oddball for us is next weekend at Loudon just because it’s hit or miss there for us for some reason. So, Charles [Denike] has had that one circled since January 1. So, if we can get through there, we should be fine. But Richmond is a really good opportunity for us to continue to go in the upward direction.

Bubba Wallace added.

The Toyota drivers’ hope of running well and securing good enough points to move up in the table didn’t play out as expected. He finished the race P20 and couldn’t get him out of the bubble. The veteran now has to at least run inside the top-10 in the next two weeks to secure a last-16 spot.
