The NASCAR Cup grid is at Watkins Glen for the second race of the Round-16 and the race is expected to be a wild card event just like it was at Atlanta. With multiple playoff drivers, non-playoff drivers and part-timers coming in desperate for a solid performance if not a win, the race will feature some chaotic moment.
For playoff drivers such as Chase Elliott the road course ringers and spoiler squad is a big challenge. But the 2020 Champion doesn’t have the same opinion as he insisted that having the likes of Shane van Gisbergen, AJ Allmendinger and Juan Pablo Montaya doesn’t change anything for him, as he asserts their approach, and goals will remain the same.
Over the course of my time and having been through that, you know, it does not change anything for us. It really does us no good to sit there and look at that. We’ve got to run our weekend and it doesn’t change our goals. It just doesn’t. It is what it is, you know, it just doesn’t impact our weekend as we prep for it.Chase Elliott told Frontstretch.
He later went on to point out that regardless of the pedigree of the driver that he is going to face on Sunday, his mindset always remains the same. He approaches this week at Glen like he approaches every other week in the season.
As I look at the weekend, regardless of who’s in the event, my mindset doesn’t change and that’s no different this time versus any other weekChase Elliott added.
Chase Elliott explains how tires will change the game at Glen
The Goodyear tires for the race is expected to have extra degradation on Sunday. While talking about the same, Elliott pointed out that if the claims are true then locking on a front row start won’t be much helpful for the racers in the chase of victory.
I think the only thing that could potentially change that would just be whether or not the tire falls off. If a tire actually has some fall off to it, then you know potentially you could not have to qualify on the front row to have a shot to win because historically that’s kind of been the name of the game here.Chase Elliott said.
The points made by the Hendrick Motorsports driver does holds some ground, the track position will be an advantage in the race if the tires are saved enough. It will be interesting to see how the race will playout for Elliott and the ringers.
