The NASCAR Cup series race at Atlanta featured some wild moments including a last corner wreck before Joey Logano secured the win. The pit-road wasn’t free on incidents as well, as Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott was involved in an incident with Austin Cindric, Corey LaJoie and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. involved.
The No:9 Chevy of Chase Elliott was getting out of his pit-stop when Team Penske Racing’s Austin Cindric was coming in and this resulted in the HMS driver hitting him, costing both some time. The craziness didn’t end there as he made his way forward; Corey LaJoie squeezed him into a three wide situation with Stenhouse Jr. and resulted in all three making contact.

After the race Chase Elliott talked to the media about the incident and tried to make sense of it. He pointed out that he didn’t lose any significant amount of time nor did have significant damage because of the incident and was lucky for it. Elliott further added that the No:7 car making the it three wide caused the second incident.
I don’t think it impacted how it drove, not under these circumstances. I think we got pretty lucky on that… I was coming out, there was someone to my outside and then the 7 jumped out and I think there was someone… it’s always hard to see if there’s anyone to their left but certainly, the 7 made it three-wide and it’s extremely narrow.Chase Elliott said at Atlanta.
Chase Elliott is happy about his solid outing
The HMS driver secured a P8 finish amidst the chaos at Atlanta and is really happy about it, considering he had a bad race last week at Darlington. The result has given some hopes going into the next-round and is looking forward to next-weekend race at Watkins Glen, hoping to ride the positive momentum.
It’s nice to just have a solid day. We needed a good, solid day for this No. 9 NAPA / Children’s Chevy team. I’m looking forward to getting up to Watkins Glen and seeing how it goes.Chase Elliott told NBC.
The good result has given Chase Elliott a 24-point edge from the R-16 cut off line and if everything goes right, the No:9 team will easily be in the next-round. If he can secure a race win tis round, that will do a world of good for him in the championship chase.
