NASCAR veteran Kyle Busch had another underwhelming weekend at Richmond. The RCR triggered a multi-car wreck and even made contact with Chase Elliot, something that infuriated the Hendrick Motorsports star. However, after a respectful gesture by Busch, Elliot has moved past the incident.
Chase Elliot was making decent progress at Richmond before the wreck. The HMS star could’ve gone on to win the race. Not only did it take away Elliot’s chances of victory, but even hampered his position in the regular-season standings against William Byron.
After the weekend, the HMS driver was asked whether he had a conversation with Kyle Busch over the incident. Chase Elliot revealed that the 40-year-old’ did reach out to him to apologize for causing the wreck. Elliot made it clear that he wasn’t angry with the NASCAR veteran. Rather, the 29-year-old knew that Busch had made a mistake which led to chaos on-track.
Kyle did reach out to me. He apologized for what happened. I don’t have any differing opinion on it. I was never mad at him. I knew it was a mistake right when I saw it. It sucks and I hate it.
Chase Elliot told Steven Taranto of CBS Sports.
Usually, NASCAR drivers often stay away from admitting their on-track mistakes. After a wreck, it is not uncommon to see drivers get into a verbal fight instead of sorting things out. Thus, Kyle Busch’s gesture to apologize to Elliot shows a bond of mutual respect between the two.
Moreover, Chase Elliot did not hide his feelings when it came to his lost chances at Richmond. The Chevrolet driver had hoped for a better outing, but didn’t blame Busch, since he knew that the 40-year-old didn’t intentionally trigger the wreck. Elliot admitted that he was just unlucky to face that situation.
It obviously killed our night and our regular-season championship hopes, kind of all at the same time. But I knew it was nothing that he (Busch) did on purpose. It wasn’t anything aimed at us. It was just the way that it all went down, and unfortunately, we were on the bad end of it.
Chase Elliot added.
Chase Elliott said today that Kyle Busch reached out to apologize for the contact that ended Elliott's race and regular season title hopes that Richmond. Seems like Kyle was just getting his bearings and didn't realize other cars were coming through on the bottom.

Chase Elliot ‘totally gets’ Kyle Busch’s Richmond mistake
Chase Elliot was not the only driver who had their race destroyed due to Kyle Busch at Richmond. The RCR veteran roped in several cars in the wreck, including the likes of Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski. No one was happy to find themselves in such a spot, but this is just how things can unfold in the world of NASCAR.

Elliot claimed that Busch didn’t go into the specifics in their conversation. The HMS star reckoned that the 40-year-old was simply unaware of the cars on the inside line, thus Kyle Busch couldn’t avoid causing the wreck. Though, Chase Elliot insisted that it becomes hard for a driver to recognize the cars behind in such situations.
He didn’t say anything specific. I don’t think he realized we were all coming by down there on the bottom. Obviously, he just got through the wreck like a lot of us who had kind of been in it. When that stuff happens, it’s just really hard to pick up and recognize where everyone is at. There was a lot going on, and I totally get it.
Chase Elliot explained.
Chase Elliot is a mature Cup driver. The HMS star knows better than creating beef with another driver for a single incident. This will allow Elliot to move past this incident and focus on his campaign, rather than dreading the incident for any longer.
