When NASCAR goes to restricted plate races a.k.a Superspeedways, crashes are inevitable. The driver is often on their toes to make sure they are in the right sot to survive if the racers around the wrecks and most often than not they get it wrong. This Saturday’s race at Daytona, the Coke Zero Sugar 400 was no different.
The race featured tow big ones with the fosrt one taking out some big names. Corey LaJoie left hooked Noah Gragson and it resulted in a big wreck that collected the likes of Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and Ross Chastain. The No:9 Chevy driver of Hendrick Motorsports, Elliott, was really disappointed with how the race played out.

Chase Elliott pointed out that he wasn’t sure what actually happened on lap 60 that resulted on the wreck as he was hit from all the side while attempting slow down seeing the smoke. He hates it for him team and admitted that it was a bummer considering they were running well the whole race till the incident.
I saw smoke and I was so far in the back of the pack at that point, I was just trying to slow down and hope nobody hits me from behind. Unfortunately, neither one of those things happened. It’s a bummer, I hate it, but we were really just riding. I think everybody was just trying to get through the stage. … Definitely a bummer.Chase Elliott said at Daytona.
Chase Elliott admits the wreck was long overdue for him
The race marked the first DNF of the season for Chase Elliott and it ended his long streak of finishing plate races without DNF. So, he knew that the DNF was long overdue for him, considering he was lucky enough to not have it for a longtime.
I hate it for everyone involved. Obviously gonna have to go and have a really good week next week but we’ve been pretty lucky these last few plate races, so we were overdue unfortunately.Chase Elliott said.
The result wasn’t what Chase Elliott wanted as it also ruined his hopes of winning the regular season championship against Tyler Reddick. He would now be hoping to get the best result from next-weeks race at Darlington and get in a great spot for the playoffs.
