Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott and Team Penske Racing’s Ryan Blaney, two NASCAR Cup Series champions, have been close friends for many years. They hangout not just in the garage as well as outside the racing weekends as well, with golfing being one of the few activities they like many NASCAR drivers shares together.
Friendly banter between the two has always been something the fans really enjoyed over the years and one such banter made Chase Elliott to make an admission about him being not as good as Ryan Blaney in golf. Ryan Blaney was the one who passed along the question about how good the HMS driver is compared to the former in golfing, as part of “Jeff Gluck’s 12 Questions” interview tradition.
When are you ever going to get better at golf, and how many hours will you have to put in to get to my level? (laughs) Wow! Wow. It’s a valid question. I go through these little pockets where I get better, and then I fall back apart again. For the record, I’ve hung with him a few times. I’m not as good as him.

Despite the loses, Chase Elliott wants to still play more games with his friends and find ways to convincingly beat his friend. One of the major challenges that the Hendrick Motorsports driver faces is the fact that Ryan Blaney is someone who is really competitive when regardless of the events and never shy away from talking shit during these duels.
I’d love to get out more and play and try to give him a run. But listen, I want to be able to go beat him. There’s nothing like going to play somebody like him who’s going to give you a bunch of crap for it and him have to give me strokes. That just s**ks. So maybe one day. We’ll keep chipping at it.

Jimmie Johnson gives Chase Elliott a major confidence boost
Last weekend’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway was special for Chase Elliott as he secured his first win of the 2025 season, pulling of an impressive overtake on Brad Keselowski on the last lap of the race. It helped him to end the 42-race winless streak that has been haunting for many weeks.

Ex-HMS racer and Legacy MC owner driver Jimmie Johnson on his podcast shared his thoughts on Chase Elliott finally securing a win and making into the playoffs. He believes the most popular driver of the sport, has figured out what to do to succeed and is ready for the good times to come.
The new car doesn’t necessarily fit stylistically, but Chase is gonna figure it out…I think this is the start of many good things to come.

The key figure in the resurgence has been No:9 Chevy crew chief Alan Gustafson, who was widely criticized when the team has been on a winless streak. The support from Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick, also plays a significant role in them getting back to winning races.
With Alan Gustafson as the leader and the support from Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick, Chad Knaus, what Hendrick has to offer, they do a really good job of putting their athletes in an environment that they will thrive in. And the relationship between Alan and Chase is an incredible one and this is just what the doctor ordered for those guys.
Jimmie Johnson added.
The comments from the seven times champion are a massive confidence booster for the Chase Elliott, who is now again in the chase for the Cup title. It would be interesting to see how the No:9 Chevy team would perform in the coming races of the 2025 season.
