One of the biggest changes happened in the Next-Gen era was the reconfiguration of the Atlanta Motor Speedway from a normal oval track to a short-superspeedway. Many racers in the community hated the change, but the reaction from the fans has been entirely different. Now 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott has given his verdict on the whole situation.

The Georgia native talking about his home track, pointed out that he likes how the reconfiguration transformed the track in the racing side as well as the outside factor. Chase Elliott pointed out that unlike the racers, the fans have a positive response to how the races are playing out and it has brought in an energy that was missing over the years.

I think for me, to kind of get behind it when I see the positive reaction to a race and people kind of speaking highly of the race track because for so many years, I heard nothing but the opposite. So, I think that it’s easy for me to be like – well you know what, that was fun for us, but the people that came down here and watched didn’t really love that.

Chase Elliott told Frontstrech.

He is the driver that has interacted the most with the local fans and understand how much they enjoy the race product nowadays. The comments from the most popular drivers in the sport will be something NASCAR will bank on to end the debates over the reconfigured track for good.

And now, it’s totally reversed. I think some of the drivers probably don’t necessarily love that we added two more speedways. But the people that come down here and support us seem to really like that. So that’s why I can get on board with it, just because I’ve interacted with the people that attend this track probably a little more than others.

Chase Elliott added.

Chase Elliott is not a big fan of current Superspeedway racing style

In a different interview, while talking about how Superspeedway racing has changed over the last few years, Chase Elliott admitted that he dislikes the current style. But he accepts there isn’t an alternative and is learning to cope with it. He also declared that unlike in the past the racers now care more about racing in such tracks as they can’t afford to ignore the events.

Yeah, I don’t necessarily know that it’s my favorite style of racing to participate in, but it is definitely a style of racing that you really have to learn to at least accept and try and learn how to get better… So, I think that, historically, you could kind of get away with not worrying about the speedway races with where they fell on the calendar and the fact there wasn’t as many of them. But I don’t really think that’s the case anymore.

Chase Elliott said.

The comments from the Hendrick Motorsports champion proves racing have changed a lot in the superspeedways with the current generations of cars and some of those changes were for the good. But at the same time, the issue with over aggression is something that needs to be resolved alongside few other issues.
