Wood Brother Racing’s Harrison Burton pull of the biggest upset of the 2024 season after they won the Coke Zero Sugar 400. It was a massive accomplishment for the team as they were P34 in the championship coming into the race on Saturdays and is now set to finish at least P16 in the overall championship.
This caused a lot of criticism coming towards the young driver. Harrison Burton winning the race from outside the top 30 and getting the layoff spot over drivers in the bubble didn’t sit well with many fans. But it wasn’t Burton fault and it’s the system that is to be blamed for it. Hence 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott has come to his defense.
He pointed out that it is the NASCAR rules and format that created the questionable situation and the youngster shouldn’t be blamed for taking advantage of it. Elliott asserted that anyone questioning the fairness of the win is wrong as Wood Brothers Deserves credit for rightfully taking the advantage.
Look, they don’t make the rules. NASCAR makes the rules, and this is the format they created. This is what you’re gonna get sometimes whenever the cards fall like they did on Saturday night. So, I think for any of us to question that is just unfair because this is the reality and that’s the format they rightfully took advantage of. Props to them.Chase Elliott said via Sportsnaut.
Chase Elliott is happy for Harrison Burton
While talking about the topic earlier, Elliott admitted that he knows the whole WBR team as his father raced for them hence is happy the have secured the 100th win of their career. He is also happy for the Burton family who he is close with and added that he enjoys watching the youngster shine.
Harrison did a good job. I know all those guys really well from dad’s time racing with them from me being a kid and I was just super happy for them to win and to get their 100th win — I think it’s an incredible milestone. I just wanna say that. Really am happy for all parties involved. Jeff Burton’s a good friend of mine and I enjoy watching Harrison too. So, really just happy for them.Chase Elliott said.
Wood Brothers and Burton has all the rights to rejoice their impressive performance and will be looking forward to make the best out of their 2024 season with the remaining races. If they played their cards right and luck favour them the team cane go further in the playoff.
