The Joe Gibbs Racing drivers seems to among the racers who are happy to see Austin Dillon getting penalized hard for his controversial win at Richmond. He wrecked Team Penske Racing’s Joey Logano and JGR’s Denny Hamlin, on the final corner. NASCAR stripped him off his automatic playoff entry as the penalty for the actions.

JGR veteran Martin Truex Jr. was really critical of Austin Dillon and pointed out that he is happy the No:3 got a severe penalty. His teammate Christopher Bell also came out with the same verdict, as he admitted that he is happy not to see Dillon in the playoff as he doesn’t agree with the way the victory came.

He acknowledges that if NASCAR didn’t do anything about it, it would set a bad precedent for the other drivers. If the ruling wasn’t made, it would have opened a can of warms as it sent a message to drivers that they can do anything to win. So, he is happy NASCAR stepped in and made a statement that there is a limit.

I’m happy. I’m happy that he isn’t in the playoffs because I do think that that… If they wouldn’t have said anything then it would have opened the can of worms, saying hey, anything goes. I’m happy that they did tell us that that isn’t going to be accepted.

Austin Dillon gives an update on the appeal process

RCR was disappointed with NASCAR’s decision and was quick to appeal the verdict. Dillon while talking about the same pointed out that, he has no regrets about winning the race way he did and pointed out that the precedent set before him confirms he was right.

We have to do our job to do the best we can to lay everything out there that shows that we have no regrets on what happened this past weekend in winning the race. And because of the precedent that has been set by everyone before me in NASCAR.
Austin Dillon said.

The verdict on the appeal would most probably will come before the regular season comes to end, as the playoff berth is in question. It would be interesting to see what the result of the appeal will be and how this would affect the current grid, with just 3 more races left.
