The NASCAR community still isn’t over the chaotic Atalanta Cup race and controversies over the aggressive racing style that was on display from Carson Hocevar. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell was one of the “victims” of the No:77, as the Chevy driver’s attempt squeeze his way up on overtime one ended in the No:20 Toyota wrecking out and missing out on the win.
Despite causing the incident, Carson Hocevar refused to communicate with Christopher Bell and apologize. Many expected him do so after it was revealed that the youngster apologized to 2023 champion Ryan Blaney. On his appearance on the Gluckcast, Hocevar defended himself and asserted that he didn’t apologize because nothing he could do will change potential payback coming his way.
I feel like we’re racing. I don’t know what me saying anything would do for him. I don’t really like the conversation stuff. I feel like if he has to race me harder, me saying anything is not really going to change that. … I feel like everything is on the racetrack, and the rest is just noise.
Carson Hocevar said via the Gluckcast podcast.
Ahead of the COTA race, Christopher Bell was asked about the tension between them and he had a cold answer. He asserted that he knowns what happens in the situation and he will handle it in his on ways in the coming weekends. Bell seems to have fired a shot at Hocevar with subtle and vague warning.
Yeah, certainly I’ve gone back and looked at it. So, I’ve got my perception of what happened, and he has his, so that’s it. Everyone handles situations and conflicts differently, and I have my ways of going about it and he has his ways of going about it, so that’s what I’ll say on that.
Christopher Bell told The Athletic’s Jeff Gluck.
Carson Hocevar shares his thoughts on new nickname getting traction
In the last two-week Carson “Hurricane” Hocevar fully lived up to his nickname and it seems the name is going to stick. The Chevy racer talked about it on the Gluckcast and highlighted how never expected Leigh Diffey’s name for him to catch-on.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure how much they were gonna use it because, obviously, it was Leigh Diffey saying it, and I was like, ‘Man, you’re not gonna hear that thing till next year in the fall, and I was like, I don’t know, they might have something different.’
Carson Hocevar said.
The youngster sees the name being used by Fox and other broadcasters as a compliment. He is expecting the name will grow on the fans naturally and maybe he can sell some t-shirts with the nickname in the future.
But, when FOX [did it], I was like, ‘OK, I guess we can make a shirt or something.’ I take it as a compliment. You can’t nickname yourself anything, it’s gotta come natural, it’s gotta come from somebody else.
Carson Hocevar added.
With the aggressive racing style and his overall attitude, the name suits Carson Hocevar more than any of his previous names. It would be interesting to see how everything on and off track going to playout for the Spire Motorsports driver.
