Kyle Busch made one of the biggest team changes of his career in 2022, when he ended his one and half decade stay at Joe Gibbs Racing and signed with Richard Childress Racing. Initially it was seen as the correct move as he won three races at the first half of the 2023 season, but since then the team experienced a massive performance slump.
The two times cup champion hasn’t been the same since the second half of the 2023 season and has never showed promises of winning a race. The last few weeks has seen some of the worst performance and luck Kyle Busch has had with RCR in 2024. According to Spire Motorsports driver Corey LaJoie confidence is a massive issue with the No:8 team.
There’s been a lot of chatter about the 8 not running near what we expect from Kyle Busch, a two-time champion, to run. Almost to the point where it’s like yeesh. There is a commodity with this car that shows much more than the previous car. And I believe it is confidence.
Corey LaJoie said via Stacking Pennies podcast.
He pointed out that there is lack of confidence in in the No:8 crew and car from Kyle Busch. This confidence landslide is giving a lot of headche for the veteran and his crew, making them miss out on success they deserve.
It’s confidence in your people, it’s confidence in your car. It’s confidence in yourself and you can see when that nosedive starts. And the 8 car is in the middle of a confidence landslide at the moment.Corey LaJoie added.
Kyle Busch’s crew chief has some hopes for the coming races
Randall Burnett, the No:8 team crew chief, is expecting a really strong outing in the coming races for him. He is expecting his team to step, be productive at Indy and Pocono races. Their past performance and Busch being historically good there give him the hope.
I think Pocono and Indy are really strong tracks for Kyle and we’ve been really fast with the 8 car there the last couple of years, or at least at Pocono we’re pretty good. Indy will be a new one with going back to the oval with this car will be a new deal for everybody.Randall Burnett said.
The RCR crew seem to have a good feeling going into the upcoming races with a newfound confidence which they desperately need. It would be interesting to how it would help them to bounce back from the poor run.
