The Charlotte Roval playoff race that saw Joey Logano grind his way into the R-8 on points, despite finishing P20. After the race, the veteran used the moment to defend the system, asserting no other format can create the same level of wicked and dramatic moments. Oh wow, if we don’t have the playoffs, we don’t have that.’ Well, I didn’t want that. I didn’t need that. That didn’t make me go, ‘Damn, I’m glad we got the playoffs.

Furthermore, he pointed that the comments from the star drivers isn’t helping the supporters of the playoff format. For the JRM co-owner the Ford drivers’ comments help him realize the faults of the current format more that its positives.

The more Joey Logano gets out of his car and talks about the playoffs, the more I don’t like the playoffs. The more he talks about and I know he’s defending it, and he and I know he believes what he believes, and I’m good with that for him, but the more he tells me why I should like the playoffs, the less I like him.

Everybody knows that I like a season-long format. Whatever they go to, whether it’s the four-race final round or if they go to the original Chase of a 10-race. I don’t know what they’re going to do.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

This is because of the fact that he doesn’t believes the sanctioning body has any plans to crown the champion using the OG format. Hence, he has got himself mentally prepared to be less disappointed when a new playoff format is announced and not the 36-race format.

All that will be great. I’m not gonna be ‘ah, darn it,’ if the full-season thing doesn’t come back because I don’t really think that’s where NASCAR is going to go. So, I’m ready for that mentally.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.

The comments from the HOF seems ration and just like Junior the racing community should brace themselves for a new form of playoffs. Going back to the OG format might take more convincing and everyone in the community should work hand in hand to make the new format that will potentially come in 2026 work.
