The 2024 NASCAR Cup season has so far been a nightmare for Kyle Busch and RCR. But they had the best opportunity to redeem themselves last Saturday at Daytona as the No:8 Chevy team found themselves in the lead, in fight for win on the final restart. But unfortunately for them Fords’ Harrison Burton pulled off a stunning win with a help of a Chevy driver.
RCR associated Parker Retzlaff restarted the race behind Harrison Burton and this gave the No:8 car an advantage as the former could easily not push the latter and help Kyle Busch. But this didn’t happen as Retzlaff gave Burton as good push while the RCR veteran lost the support from Christopher Bell. It resulted in the youngster getting a lot of backlash online.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. has come in the defense of the driver and asserted that he didn’t do anything wrong. He pointed out that Retzlaff has every right to go for the win on the last lap and he doesn’t have any problem with it. He later added that even RCR will easily forgive him soon and will appreciate his race on Saturday.
At the end, when it comes down to, like, 20 to go, I’m very singular, very selfish. I’m trying to win the race, and if I’m trying to help you win the race, I ain’t — I’m not doing what I’m supposed to do. So, I like what Parker did. I think he was truly just trying to put himself in position to get a win. So, I don’t have a real problem with it.Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Dale Jr. Download.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. asserts didn’t kill his Parker Retzlaff career at Daytona
While further addressing claims that RCR might refuse to give more opportunities to Parker Retzlaff over the incident, Junior pointed out that it wont happen. He highlighted that with the youngster being a good prospect, RCR would only sit him down for a talk to explain the needs of the team in the future with him.

They’re not going to — he’s not going to get less opportunities, if it’s with RCR, because of that. They’re going to — they’re going to go, ‘Hey, all right, you made that choice. Didn’t love it. This is what I would do. We’ll sit down, we’ll talk about it. I was expecting this. I was expecting this from you, Parker,’ but he’s a good little racer. He didn’t kill his career at Daytona.Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
The arguments made by Junior is on point and any driver at that moment would go for a win, especially a young driver who is working hard to establish himself in the sport. It will be interesting to see how his career with RCR will playout following the whole drama.
