Team Penske Racing’s 2024 season has been story of two halves, coinciding with the return to form by their two times champion driver Joey Logano. The No:22 Ford team scored two wins coming into the playoff, with one of them being the All-Star race, and started the post-season with a statement win at Atlanta.

Though Joey Logano was struggling most of the season, no one was surprised to see him winning the race to secure R-12 entry as he and the team often peaks during the playoffs every season. Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a similar reaction as he pointed out Logano winning from nowhere every fricking year is not a new thing.

That was an interesting first race. Joey Logano comes out of nowhere like he does every fricking year… This is not a new thing, this is exactly how his seasons have gone. I think even when he won the championship a couple years back, he was like a 12th-place driver all year.

Junior is absolutely right as Joey Logano and his team knows when to peak and have reaped the rewards for it by winning the title twice. So, its won’t be a surprise to see the No:22 Ford in the championship finale considering he has secured a final four entry every other season over the last one decade and has to do it this season to keep the streak alive.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. explains how Joey Logano is a championship contender

Though Team Penske doesn’t have the best cars of the season, based on the drivers ability they are strong contenders for the title. Junior in the podcast highlighted that Logano has the upper hand over most of the drivers in the last-16 in 2024 based on pure racing skills.

If you look at the playoff grid, what we’re going to do is we’re going to take each car … just take each individual car, you’re going to put them out on the race track with Joey Lognao, who’s going to win? Head-to-head?
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

He pointed out that for Joey Logano, many cars in the post-season are beatable because he is so good. Junior even suggested that William Byron, the championship front runner from the start of the season, will have tough times against the veteran.

There’s a lot of beatable cars if you’re Joey Logano. He’s not just dogs**t. I mean, if you look at him and say, alright, William Byron versus Joey Logano at Bristol, that’s pretty even, right? Pretty even money, right?
Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.

The points made by Junior is correct and it won’t be surprised to see the No:22 team improving its performance as the season progresses. It will be interesting to see if Team Penske will keep the Next-Gen era championship dominance alive with the help of Logano.
