Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordan are the most talented racers to drive for Hendrick Motorsports. The latter won 4 cup championships for the Chevy Giants and reshaped NASCAR history with his dominance. Gordan, who is now the vice chairman of HMS, also played an essential role in the recruitment policies and projects.

Dale Jr., on the other hand, scored multiple victories with the team but failed to win the title. His fame helped the team to secure lucrative sponsorship deals and garnered more fans for the organization.  The fame not only helped the team, but Earnhardt Jr. also helped Gordan escape from a speeding ticket on his first day of joining the team.

Gordan was once on his way to have dinner and came to know about Dale Jr’s signing. He called Jr soon after learning about the announcement to congratulate him. Using the phone while driving is punishable under law, and the then No:24 driver was also speeding. A cop pulled over Gordan and started questioning him about breaking the law.

Luckily the policeman was a  Dale Jr. fan, and Gordan gave the phone to the cop, allowing him to talk to the racer. This was enough for the officer to let Gordan go without charging him with any offenses.

I was driving to dinner, and I said, I’ma call him. And I didn’t have the hands-free set up in the car, so I just called him….You picked up, and we’re having a nice conversation…And suddenly, I’ve got blue lights in my rear window, and I’m like, ‘Uh oh, I’m getting pulled over. So, I wasn’t sure if I should stay on the phone with Dale, but I said, ‘No, no, stay on here. I may need you.’ And luckily, I did…I just handed the phone off, and you spoke to him for two seconds and got me out of it.

A crash and his subsequent concussion ended Dale Jr.’s full-time cup career.  In the 2016 cup season, Jr sustained a concussion after a crash at Kentucky Speedway. HMS was forced to call back Jeff Gordan, who retired the previous year, to replace him. He was first announced to run the Indy and Pocono races in July.

Gordan went on to partake in 8 races for Dale Jr’s No:88 team. He scored two top-10 finishes and five top-20s with the team but failed to secure a win that season. Gordan was part of Fox’s NASCAR coverage before renouncing his retirement for one last time.
