The 2024 NASCAR Cup season finale at Phoenix Raceway has been one of the most dramatic events of the recent times, as Joey Logano pulled of a huge upset to win his third title. One of the most dramatic moments of the race was the wreck of the pace car driver, while entering the pit-road during the race.

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. was really upset with the pace car driver over the incident that should never have happened. He took shots at him via the Dale Jr. Download podcast, calling him out for diving to the pit-road and messing it up. Junior remined the driver how the car works on the track.

‘The pace car dives onto pit road.’ The pace car doesn’t just gradually ease to pit road. It dives onto pit road. Well, listen — I appreciate the effort. It needs to be a deliberate move. But you also need to know how to drive a car. It’s also important to understand the laws of gravity, physics.

Junior admitted that during his race career, he has been involved in such incidents and knowns the importance of getting the grip on things on the track. He asked the driver to take a course before getting in the car again, to make sure such embarrassing situation doesn’t happen again.

Look, I busted my ass plenty of times. I know I’m not perfect. But it needs to be a deliberate move. It can’t be a meandering — it’s got to be a deliberate move. He maybe needs to take a course. Driving course, with cones. Take that specific car though, so you can learn — can really understand the lateral grip, and the limits that this car has.

While further talking about the topic, Junior pointed out that the pace car has some similarities and difference from the pace car, and it demands the driver to be ready to control the grip issue and weight distribution. Hence Dale Jr. wants the pace cars drivers to have enough practice with the car to make sure everything goes smoothly.

It was like — the guy is no stranger to driving cars, but it was like he was driving that one for the first time. It seemed like he was just taken aback by — he expected more. The car just didn’t deliver. I think, you take that car — they’ve got all kinds of weight in the back, all those batteries and stuff for those lights and everything. There’s a bunch in that car — it’s not going to drive exactly like a stock car.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

The incident, which Kevin Harvick branded as an “epic failure” had an impact on the race as it brough out a red flag. It will be interesting to see if NASCAR will take the advice from the Hall of Famer to make sure such serious incident wouldn’t happen again.
