NASCAR introduced the Next-Gen cars 2022 with the gaols of making racing more affordable, fair and competitive. While it benefited almost all of the NASCAR grid and enable them to level up, for Stewart Haas Racing it wasn’t the decision. They have won just three races in the Next-Gen, which too came in the first season, and since 2023 the team has never been a real contender.
As Tony Stewart’s teams’ poor form continued and they lost major primary sponsors following retirement of Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola, rumors started coming out that the team is planning to downsize. But according to latest reports, the team might even sell all his charters soon and Stewart might leave the sport.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. is really concerned about all the rumors coming from SHR. He reckons it would be really bad if NASCAR lost someone like Tony Stewart as an owner. The two times Xfinity Series champion is hoping that Stewart doesn’t leave the sport entirely and the sale rumors are not entirely true.
The question is, will Stewart-Haas sell all four of them? Does Tony Stewart and [Gene] Haas get out entirely? Holy sh*t. That would be weird. But I mean, it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of — I don’t know. I don’t want to speculate. But I hope that Tony Stewart doesn’t leave NASCAR entirely. That would suck. I just think he’s an icon. He’s a motorsports icon. Done it all.Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Dirty Air podcast.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. claims Tony Stewart is an icon like AJ Foyt
Junior while talking about Tony Stewart and his legacy, pointed out that the SHR boss is someone who has won almost everything in Motorsports and that makes him an icon in the same level as AJ Foyt. Hence, he really wants the Stewart brand to stay in NASCAR.
I still love the idea of him having ownership in anything in our sport, because of his legacy. He’s an icon. He’s like A.J. Foyt. So, I hope that that’s not what happens. I hope that they don’t entirely remove themselves from the sport. We’ll see how that goes, man. That’s pretty crazy.Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
Leaving NASCAR would also be a bad PR for a Stewart as there is a lot of fans who wants to see him associated with the sport and would be angry with him if he shuts everything up. It would be interesting to see how soon would the air around SHR’s future would be cleared.
