Spire Motorsports’ Daniel Saurez is the most accomplished NASCAR driver hailed from Mexico, and he has to survive many challenges to become the international racing star he is now. On his recent appearance of the HOT ROD Pod: Where It All Began, the Mexican American racer explained these major problems he faced in his formative years in the states.

During a candid conversation on his rookie racing years in USA after moving on from NASCAR Mexico Series, he admitted that he was intimidated about moving away from his family and everyone Daniel Suarez was close with. The language and cultural difference were a huge change that broke young the young Chevy driver.

It was very intimidating, especially for myself, because I come from a family that is very humble, very family-oriented. So, for me to leave my country, to leave my family, my friends, my home, and a different language, different people, different culture, it was a change. It was a very big change. And that was intimidating.

He revealed that having no one close by to support him and the communication barriers made him feel lonely on the nights and made him question is it really worth it. But he survived the pressure, made a name for himself with Toyota, won the Xfinity title with JGR, made Cup debut with them, landed at Trackhouse in 2021 after few disappointing years at the top, won two races with the team, becoming a leader and now is ready for his new chapter with Spire.

Like, because if I needed help, there was nobody to ask. I didn’t have money. I didn’t have friends. I didn’t have connections. And I didn’t speak English, and I couldn’t communicate. It was a challenge. At the same time, I had a lot of lonely nights by myself, and I really, really made me think how bad I wanted this, how bad do you want this?

Daniel Suarez exposes the problem with the Kyle Busch rules

One of the major factors that helped the Chevy driver to become the strong driver he is was the experience he got racing the big names of the sport in the lower division. The young driver now day aren’t lucky enough to experience it, owing to NASCAR’s Kyle Busch rules that has become more restricting over the years.

My curriculum will look way nicer, but I wouldn’t have learned what I learned. Like I was racing against the best of the best every single week. So, it’s different now… don’t dislike the new rules of NASCAR of limiting the Cup guys.

Daniel Suarez said.

Though the Chevy driver understand why the restriction is there in the first place, he pointed out that it is limiting the growth of the young drivers. It now takes them more time to adjust to the quality gap between the top division and other series. Racing veteran regularly used to help and now they don’t have that luxury.

With that being said, now the guys from Xfinity and Trucks, they go to Cup and the jump is bigger… because they don’t really know where is the bar… They think that okay that’s it. But once they go to a cup series, a completely different level, not just in drivers, but in engineers in big cruise and everything.

Daniel Suarez added.

The struggles of Ty Gibbs, Noah Gragson, Cole Custer and Carson Hocevar at the top is to an extent is because of this factor. This might be the reason why NASCAR has announced plans to change the rules from the 2026 season, opening more opportunities for the big names to race in the lower divisions.
