Katherine Legge who made her Cup Series debut on Sunday experienced a baptism of fire. She marked history as the first women to race in the top-tier since 2018, but failed reach any other landmarks with the Live Fast No. 78 Chevy. The traffic proved to be a massive challenge for the racer and it caused her crash.

Katherine Legge was having a strong day, despite an early spin, considering the performance of the open team in the track, before the second spin while she was running P28, with a lap down. She spun and moved into the outside wall, owing to the resistance from the traffic and Daniel Suarez, who was racing behind her slammed hard onto her. She blamed the changes made to the car overnight for the incidents.

We made some changes to the car overnight, and they were awful. I was hanging on like the first stint, I was so loose and I was just hanging on to it. Then we kept making adjustments and we kept making the car way more stable for me. Then at the end there I think we were relatively quick compared to the field. So, it wasn’t bad. I wish we hadn’t made the changes.

Katherine Legge said via Fox Sports.

Daniel Suarez was furious about the wreck that ruined his day, as the incident cost him a good race, continued his poor streak in the 2025 season, yielding him a P23 finish while Legge finished P30. He cussed on the team radio after the incident.

Fu*king lappers, man.

Katherine Legge is disappointed about lack of female racers in NASCAR Cup Series

The 2025 NASCAR season only has one full-time female racer, Toni Breidinger, and even she is racing in the Truck Series. This lack of representation is disappointing according to Legge as she believes there is currently gap between skilled woman racers capable of racing in the top-tier unlike few years ago.

Um, it’s disappointing that there aren’t more women [in] like IndyCar and NASCAR, the Cup [Series], sports cars. Really, there’s been kind of like a gap, you know. There was Sarah Fisher and Danica and me and Simona [de Silvestro], and like a bunch of good drivers in that era. And then there’s been really like this gap and this lull.

Katherine Legge said.

Her criticism doesn’t only extend to NASCAR, but IndyCar as well as both divisions hasn’t had a proper female racing star since Danica Patrick. It would be interesting to see if Legge can race in other Cup events this year and potentially inspire a generation of young female racers.
