NASCAR Cup Series race at Superspeedways never sees to amaze fans as it always brings some wild moments for the fans to enjoy. This Saturdays’ Coke Zero Sugar 400 was no different as the race featured multiple wrecks and a wild win by Wood Borther Racing youngster Harrison Burton, marking the teams’ 100th triumph.

Though the race featured two incidents of cars flapping, featuring pole sitter Michael McDowell and SHR’s Josh Berry, the wildest incident of the day wasn’t one of them. Trackhosue Racing’s Daniel Suarez had to jump out of his car soon after the first pit-stop after his rear suddenly burst into flames.

The incident occurred on his first pit-stop of the day. After completing his first stop of the day, the No:99 Chevy got back to the pit-road to rejoin the pack. But suddenly the car caught on fire and it took some time for the driver to realize why he was suddenly experiencing some heat, as soon as he realized he stopped and got out.

Daniel Suarez explained how his car caught on fire

He was forced to DNF after coming out of his car and was credited P40 finish. Suarez explained to the media how he caught up in the incident. Him coming into the pit boxed between Denny Hamlin and Harrison Burton played a huge role in it. As it created a dangerous situation because the teams drop few drops of fuel during the stops.

I was doing my pit stop just like every single weekend. The No. 11 (Denny Hamlin) was right behind me and the No. 21 (Harrison Burton) was right in front of me, so unfortunately I got boxed in. We know that every single time we do a pit stop, we drop a little bit of fuel and that’s completely normal.
Daniel Suarez told NBC Sports.

Suarez left the pit just ahead of Hamlin and the No:11 Camry’s exhaust fired up the little fuel the No:99 Crew dropped. This resulted in the car catching on fire and none could do anything as the spark went into his fuel cell and caused the big fire.

Unfortunately, the No. 11 was leaving his pit stall right behind me, and because he was waiting for me to leave, his exhaust fired up the little fuel I dropped. Because I was still parked there, that went up the back of my car where the fuel cell is and it just grabbed it. It was a very unfortunate situation. I don’t know what we could have done differently. Just sad that we’re out of the race this way, but I’m glad I’m fine and the entire team was fine.
Daniel Suarez said.

Fortunately, Suarez was able to get out the situation with no injury and no real issues with his car as well. But unlike his teammate Ross Chastain, he doesn’t have to worry about the dead-last finish as he already secured playoff with a win early in the season.
