The NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Talladega was one of the most chaotic events the track has seen in a long-time. It featured an historic wreck that collected 28 cars, ruining the race of almost every teams. Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin in his podcast has names tow driver who he thinks is the one to blame for the incident.

Brad Keselowski getting a little too much push from Joey Logano and Harrison Burton led to the RFK No:6 Ford making an undesired contact with the No:2 Penske Ford of Austin Cindric, who spun out to the middle of the 4-wide second row, causing the chaos. Denny Hamlin feels it’s too much push from the No:21 and No:22 Fords caused the incident.

It just felt like to me as someone that does this that the 21 (Harrison Burton) and 22 (Joey Logano) just kept pushing the 6 (Brad Keselowski) and didn’t get off of him. Obviously, the 6 is coming to the 2 (Austin Cindric) car with such a run.

Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.

Hamlin went onto pointy out that the 2012 Cup champion Keselowski did everything he could to slow the pack down and avoided the contact by lifting. But he failed to make it happen and ironically the drivers that caused the incident was also collected by Austin Cindric.

I think Brad tweeted it, ‘Listen, I’m trying to lift.’ He didn’t lift a lot by the way, but he did lift some and he did hit some break to try to slow down the run. He just got shoved into a wreck, and unfortunately for those guys that kind of probably initially caused it which is the 22 and the 21, they got bit by the actions they started.

Denny Hamlin extends the blame to the spotters

While further talking about the incident, Denny Hamlin pointed out that it was the mistake from the No:20 and 21 teams’ spotters that caused the incident. They should have told their drivers to be patient, don’t push too much and cause the wreck.

This is on the spotters of the 21 and 22 to say that while you’re shoving the 6, yes you got two car links ahead, you have to plan that gap is going to close really quickly. You got to get off the guy, and they didn’t and it caused a wreck.

The JGR veteran had some good points to make on the incident which was avoidable if the drivers were bit more careful and read the situation correctly. It will be interesting to see how much the crash is going to affect the playoffs with one more race left in the R-12.
