The NASCAR Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway featured some wild moments, resulting in a string of cautions at the end of stage three costing Brad Keselowski the victory and helping William Byron to win the race. Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin, who was involved in one of the incidents knows who should be blamed for it.

In the latest episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, Denny Hamlin analyzed the race and asserted that it was the championship winning Hendrick Motorsports duo of Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott that caused the dramatic moments. The 2020 and 2021 Champions made some questionable moves that irked Hamlin.

They were laying back, despite having the pace, making the race four wide, by going for the same gap, eventually disturbing the momentum of the whole pack and causing the wild incidents. He pointed out that NASCAR should have stepped up and penalized these drivers for pushing the limits under the guidance if their driver instructor.

Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson laying back three car lengths on the field and then getting a run and going four-wide, that’s what causes the wrecks…Yeah, but you’re not allowed to do that… I think it’s what their driver instructor is telling them to do. Do it as much as you can get away with it.

Denny Hamlin said via Actions Detrimental.

He urged NASCAR officials to step up their game and stop the most popular duo of the sport from doing things in complete disregard to the drivers that are running besides them. Hamlin asserted that it is disappointing that the drivers are getting away with putting the drivers is situation where they will wreck.

But what I’m calling on is NASCAR officiating to do something about it, because it’s a complete disregard for the people that you’re laying back from. You’re just winning to stick them in a four-wide situation where you know they’re going to wreck, or someone’s going to wreck, and you just don’t care.

Denny Hamlin added.

Denny Hamlin declares both Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott deserves to get wrecked in Iowa

In the same conversation, Denny Hamlin went on to explain how the whole restarts and packed arcing played out for everyone involved at Iowa and how the Larson-Elliott duo has often been shooting to the gap causing chaos. This made the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran to declare the duo deserved to get wrecked.

They lay back so much, they must have been running 10 miles an hour faster, probably more than that, than the cars in front of them when they all took off, and then they both tried to shoot the gap at the same time in the middle. They both deserved to wreck.

Denny Hamlin said.

The chaos also produced some frustration for Larson and Elliott, who went on a radio rant after he felt his teammate didn’t give him the respect, he thought he should get during the duels. But this was the result of their race strategy and how the dup raced the rest of the grid on the day, hence it’s tough to give them any sympathy.

NASCAR has to take a look at the situation, and address the driver remining them the limit they shouldn’t push past during the races. It would be interesting to see how the drama is going to influence the drivers and rest of the garage in the coming days.
