Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin is the only driver in the history of NASCAR win more than 40 Cup race wins and no championship to show for it. He has won 58 races in the top tier, since his debut in 2005, and is closing in on a record 60th win, while desperately chasing the coveted Bill France Cup.
Denny Hamlin is set to start his chase of the 2025 championship this weekend at Darlington and on his media session appearance, explained how he is approaching the chase. Despite having one of the strongest team he has ever have, he is seeing as another roll of the dice and is looking at it the same way he has always done, after the new playoff format was introduced.
It’s just another chance to roll the dice. That’s it. I don’t feel any better or any worse than what I have last year or the year before that or the year before that. They’re all very, very similar. I feel as though our team is as strong as it’s ever been…
Denny Hamlin said via Motorsports.com.
So, why does the veteran racer is taking a gambling style approach to the last ten races of the season? Well, its simple, with the sample size being too small where every unlucky moment and cautions affecting the final result, being good won’t be enough. Perfect execution, or get lucky in the clutch moments is the only way to go deep in the playoffs.
…But we’ve seen in the short sample size, it’s just a matter of whether you get unlucky at times or you catch a caution at the right time or not. Do you stub your toe on pit road? Those are the small things that decide whether you move on in the playoffs or not.
Denny Hamlin added.
The lack of championship, isn’t the only pressure on his shoulder at the moment, as the three times Daytona 500 winner is in a charter lawsuit, that is getting explosive every other week, is putting in a huge pressure. But Hamlin doesn’t care about it and is determined to keep the distraction at the bay, by keeping himself motivated.
Because I want to win the championship. I want to win 60 or more races and so that is my number one goal and so I’m not going to let anyone distract me from that no matter what their motivations might be.
Denny Hamlin asserted.
Where Denny Hamlin wants to win his record 60th Cup win?
Alongside winning the title, one of the biggest goal the veteran racer has at the moment is securing to more wins and get into top-10 all-time win list. The veteran has one track on his mind that he wants to do it at, Martinsville.

He has won six races in his 39 outings at the iconic short track. He finished inside the top-5 an impressive 21 times (counting the wins) showcasing how dominant he has been on the track. So, marking that record on best short track NASCAR has to offer will be special for the veteran.
I’d love for it to happen at Martinsville. I think that would be a really big one for me just being a short track that I felt so strong at for so many years and ultimately a track that meant a lot to my short track upbringing.
Denny Hamlin said.
But at the moment, the veteran racer should shift his focus to the coming race at Darlington and fight for wins, while guiding his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate as well as his 23XI Racing driver to producing better results as he the senior TRD racer. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the No: 11 team in the coming ten races.
