Joey Logano became a three-time Cup Series champion at Phoenix, last weekend. On the other hand, Denny Hamlin has never won the elusive championship and was a contender for a considerable amount of time before being eliminated at Martinsville. Despite the sour taste, Hamlin asserted that the Penske driver did everything right in Phoenix that eventually helped him win the championship.
Joey Logano started second in the formation and was the highest qualifier among the final four. With a hefty advantage on his side, he aimed to make the most out of it. Subsequently, his pitcrew also utilized this advantage and put him onto a flawless strategy that saw him get into the lead later in the race, and fend off the charging Ford of Ryan Blaney to claim the 2024 title to his name.
Witnessing the way that Penske and Logano executed the race, Denny Hamlin claimed that the No.22 garage did everything right in order to claim the 2024 Cup Series championship.
However, the JGR driver’s appreciation might appear as dual-faced as he called out the playoff system as delegitimizing the regular season earlier. Regardless of this, Logano would be happy to receive praise from his long-time rival and enjoy the winter break as the reigning champion.
Denny Hamlin comes back at Joey Logano’s claims of him favoring the current playoff system
Despite the normality returning between the pair of drivers, the Penske driver did not shy off from taking a jibe at Hamlin. Logano stated that while Hamlin has been critical of the current playoff system, he was initially one in favor of the system when the discussions were going on with NASCAR after the 2013 season.
This urged the 43-year-old to clarify his stance and he elaborated upon Logano’s claims briefly in his podcast.

Thus, the Toyota driver seems to drive away from such allegations. So a situation of stalemate might transcend the current rivalry as the battle of words heats up over the winter break.
On the other hand, Hamlin has received a sigh of relief as both 23XI Racing and FRM will be allowed to participate as open competitors next year. This has at least secured their place on the field, while the teams would be pressing on to get back their charter status, despite fighting a legal battle in the courtroom.
