Denny Hamlin‘s 2025 season has been commendable as he boasts over three coveted Cup Series victories. The JGR veteran has already locked his position in the playoffs and is now only looking to extend his legacy. During one of his most recent wins in Michigan, Hamlin issued a brutal comment and took a dig at all the rivals on the grid. Now, the 44-year-old has fired back at Ty Dillon, who recently mocked him after beating him in the in-season tournament bracket at Atlanta.

In a disappointing turn of events, Denny Hamlin‘s chance to score well in Atlanta was cut short following a massive 20-car wreck at around Lap 69. The 44-year-old remained on the back foot ever since and succumbed to a P31 finish in the end. This caused Hamlin to lose against his opponent, Ty Dillon, in the In-Season Tournament bracket. Dillon didn’t hold back from mocking the veteran and apologizing to his fans for beating their favorite driver.

Denny Hamlin didn’t take too kindly to Dillon’s comments and shared his true thoughts through a tweet on X. The #11 driver made a cryptic but hilarious comment against the 33-year-old’s mocking comments at Atlanta. The Kaulig Racing star moved on to Round 2 and will be matched up against Brad Keselowski in the upcoming road course race at Chicago.

Hamlin wasn’t the fan favorite at Atlanta as Ty Dillon’s comments caused quite a negative commotion against the former. To make matters worse, the 44-year-old commented ‘NASCAR playoffs 2’, which wasn’t met with much enthusiasm from the fans. Many people believed that the JGR veteran was just salty after losing his spot in the bracket and was trying his best to limit the damage caused by his loss.

Denny Hamlin reveals his true intentions on his uncertain tweet against Ty Dillon

Denny Hamlin got ratio’d on X as the tweet gained a lot of negative reactions. Some fans were left confused as to what the 44-year-old meant with the cryptic tweet. Seeing even more hate being spread, Hamlin immediately clarified that he tried to take a jibe at himself, which backfired. Online war of words clearly isn’t the veteran’s game as he seems to old to win against the Gen-Z keyboard warriors.

Hamlin referred to all the naysayers in comments as ‘poor souls’ who did not get the reference. The father-of-three noted that the original tweet declared that he was ‘eliminated’ from the race, as he clearly finished the race as classified and in P31. Moreover, the 44-year-old clarified that he was making fun of himself and did not want to attract any more light on this topic than required.

Look at these poor souls in the comments who didn’t get the joke.. he said I was eliminated people, I was making fun of myself.

Denny Hamlin added.

Regardless of the hate received by Denny Hamlin, results speak for themselves as he continues to improve his results. The 44-year-old is looking stronger than ever despite racing in NASCAR for so long. Now, Hamlin will prepare for the upcoming road course race in Chicago, as he isn’t used to the narrow circuits after recently missing out on the Mexico City Cup Race.
