Team Penske Racing’s Joey Logano won the Las Vegas Motor Speedway playoff race, upsetting the remaining drivers in R-8. He was able secure the win taking advantage of his fuel saving ability and a bit of help from teammate Ryan Blaney at the end of the season. The No:22 going from 8th in points to the championship-4 in on race has changed the complexion of the season significantly.

Chrsitopher Bell, who finished the race at P2, suggested that Ryan Blaney’s help was significant in Joey Logano’s win. The No:12 Ford driver didn’t take the comments well and returned the jibe. Now Denny Hamlin via his podcast has assessed the situation and pointed out that Penske cars worked the best way possible in the situation, helping one of them secure the win.

We’ve seen the Penske teammates work well if not the best of any of helping each other in those types of situations. What that was helping was by having the 12 [Blaney] around you, he’s helping push you down the straightaway even if he’s not physically pushing, it’s taking drag off your car which allows it to go faster down the straightaway with you having to run less throttle.

Denny Hamlin said via Actions Detrimental.

Blaney didn’t physically push Logano in the race, which would have landed them in trouble. Instead, he took away drag and helped him to pass Daniel Suarez, while saving the fuel. It was just great teamwork from, the Ford duo, which even Bell admits it to be.

He had an ally there that was around him helping him down the straightaways which allowed him to save fuel and run the speed to pass the 99 [Daniel Suárez] and get the win.

Denny Hamlin confesses his playoff run has been disappointing

The No:11 team came into the playoffs with the hopes of having a string season, but they were met with poor results owing to bad execution on the track as well as on the pit-road. In the podcast he admitted the whole post-season so far has been disappointing for him and added that he really struggled at the track where he should have been the contender.

I’m just kind of disappointed in our playoffs. Certainly, it hasn’t been clean, by any means, especially at the race tracks where we know that we’ve got a chance to contend. It’s just been a rough go at it for us.

Denny Hamlin said.

It is not over yet for Denny Hamlin though, as he got two more races to secure his spot in the championship-4. They have to win a race to get into the finale now and for that have to clean up their execution the whole weekend, in the next two races.
