Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin is the driver under the least amount of pressure, alongside his teammate Chase Briscoe as the Cup garage is set to race it out in the R-8 finale at Martinsville. The veteran racer finally has the chance to win his maiden Cup series title, as he set to race in the championship finale for the first time in half a decade following his win at Las Vegas.
The victory didn’t just earn him a place in the playoffs, but also earned him a historic 60th race win, making him probably the last driver to cross this landmark. With the momentum on his side, owing to his six race wins this season, Denny Hamlin is in prime spot to win his maiden championship that he has been chasing since his debut in 2007 with JGR.
Recently, the veteran was asked about the multiple times he came close to winning the title, only to lose them in the last race, with the 2019 loss to then teammate Kyle Busch being the most brutal one. The veteran asserted that he doesn’t have any regrets regarding these failures as he had learned to live with it, as he believes he did his best in those years.
I have to live with it. I can’t change that. And, I feel like at the end of my career, it’s been far more of the ‘I’m okay with the result because I did the best I could,’ than it was early in my career, where it’s like, ‘Man, I had them, I had them right here, and I let them go.’

Further talking about the point, the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran racer pointed out that going into the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season finale his primary goal is to make sure he did everything he could to win the Bill France Cup. He just wants to fly back home gratified regardless of the results and the only way he could do is by performing with his full potential.
I just hope that I leave Phoenix knowing that I did the best that I could do. There’s nothing I could have done different. And I think, I’m still going to be very gratified with whatever result that is.

Denny Hamlin brands Martinsville race as the fair indicator of strength of team
Coming into Martinsville this season, the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran has one goal, produce a good race, be competitive and gain enough momentum for the finale. He understands how significant it is to produce a solid performance at the iconic venue.

Talking about the importance performing well at Martinsville, he pointed out that it’s a track that is an indicator of strength of team and driver. He pointed out that out-of-control restarts will play a significant role in the final results of the race and only the best could survive that chaos.
It’s a fair indicator of strength of team and driver. It’s got a little bit more variability because sometimes the restarts can get outta control. It depends on how many of these guys are up front in the first couple rows if we do have a restart inside 20-30 laps. But I think it’s a fair indicator of strength of car and driver.

The comments from the Joe Gibbs Racing driver seems rational, as Martinsville has always been a track that humbled drivers. It would be interesting to see how this week and next week’s seas in finale is going to playout for the star driver.
