The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season watched another historic moment as last Sunday Corey Heim beat Tyler Reddick to secure his maiden win in the elite division in San Diego. He took advantage of the fast Toyota Camry and Shane van Gisbergen getting wrecked easier to secure win in his 13th start. What’s more hilarious is the fact that, on the way to the win he was able ruin the day for one of his biggest rivals.

23XI Racing driver Heim has been beefing with Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar, since their aggressive championship battle in the Truck Series three years ago. On Sunday at San Diego, the duo had multiple run-ins, with the last one being No:67 TRD spinning the No:77 Chevy in retaliation. The youngster’s boss Denny Hamlin talked about the drama on the latest episode of his podcast.

I’ve got to go back and watch, I only saw it from my little cocoon. But I tried to catch as many highlights as I could. I mean I guess Tyler (Reddick) and Corey pulled away from the field, right? First, we have to acknowledge that Corey did get in the back of Carson Hocevar and spun him out.

Denny Hamlin said on his podcast.

After the race, while Denny Hamlin was catching up with what happened on the track, he got a text from Carson Hocevar, asking for the number of Corey Heim. At the moment, the No:11 JGR Toyota driver didn’t know about the multiple run-ins and gave the number thinking the Chevy driver just want to congratulate his rival. But now the TRD driver feels he might have made the drama much bigger.

I, interesting enough, Carson Hocevar texted me right after the race, says, ‘Hey, can you send me Corey’s number?’ I thought, ‘Oh, that’s nice of him, he wants to congratulate him.’ I had no idea that he’d spun him out… So, sorry Corey, I shared your number.

Denny Hamlin added on Actions Detrimental.

Later in the same conversation, the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran driver came to the defence of his driver. He highlighted that Heim dint intentionally spun out the No:77 and asserted that it might have a been a small mistake, which is part of racing. It was just a small blemish in what turned to an impressive run from the 23XI driver.

Of course it’s not intentional. I mean, I don’t know. I’m 19 spots behind him, so I don’t know. It looked like Corey just made a mistake there, obviously.

Denny Hamlin asserted.

Corey Heim took a brutal dig at Carson Hocevar on social media

The young 23XI Racing driver social media activity post-race confirmed that his beef with Carson Hocevar isn’t going to end anytime soon. He shared a short video clip of the Spire drive defending himself after a wreck, telling rivals to just move out of the way.

Well just get the f*** out of the way and there wouldn’t be a wreck. You know what I mean? Just move. Just move out of the way.

It was an indirect message that was publicly sent to Hocevar. The beef between the two young drivers is good for the sport, as many expect them to be the future faces of the series. With Heim set to make his rookie debut next-season, the Cup series will witness a real and entertaining rivalry after a longtime.
