Cautions breed cautions, and that what exactly happened on Sunday at Talladega, the ironically had one of its cleanest races of the recent history. Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin was the hopes of the Toyota’s at Dega, but he ended being a nightmare for teammate Christopher Bell, who was on the lead.
On the restart after the first caution of the day, Christopher Bell found himself upfront alongside RFK Racing’s Chris Buescher. They were getting pushed strong by their respective teams and Denny Hamlin was helping Bell to take the lead. But the NBo:11 TRD driver made a massive mistake by pushing his teammate too hard, at the backstretch just as the green flag came into play.
"That is a HUGE hit."

This resulted is Bell’s car turni9ng to the inside after losing control and redirecting Buescher, who was racing alongside him, to the wall along with him. The No:20 Car slammed into the wall head on, and damages showed massive impact, while the No:17 Ford of Buescher made contact with the wall sideways resulting in less damages.
Hamlin was disturbed about his mistake and the aftermath. He quickly apologized to everyone involved via his radio, admitting the incident was the result of him not realizing they aren’t up to speeds yet.
What in the hell? We weren’t even up to speed yet… Man…apologies if that’s on me. We weren’t even up to speed yet. I don’t know why that would have wrecked him. When he shot down to the bottom, I wasn’t even sure I was actually on him.
Denny Hamlin said on team radio.

Denny Hamlin slammed Ross Chastain for making a similar dumb decision
The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran was almost involved in potentially in a massive wreck late in the race, involving his on and off arch-rival Ross Chastain. The Camry driver was in a draft that featured all the TRD driver and Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar.

As they made solid progress and got upfront, Chastain who was ahead of them in a separate draft pulled a sudden black by moving into the TRD team draft train. The variance of speed caused by the “signature move” from the Trackhouse Racing driver almost caused a massive wreck.
I didn’t know how far up we were actually going to be able to get, but certainly the 1 [Ross Chastain], you know, making a move there to kinda wreck us is not ideal, but I mean, he’s trying to do everything he can to stop the run. The variance of speed there was crazy.
Denny Hamlin said after the race.

The incident shows Ross Chastain is unintentionally the one who is doing the dirty work for Chevy side of the garage on the track and knowing his past, it’s a role that suits him. It would be interesting to see what more wild moments Chastain will be part of in the future.
