The NASCAR Cup series race at Nashville last Sunday became a fight of fuel saving at the end. It was caused by the record five-overtime restarts that extended the race beyond the scheduled laps, and multiple cars who were contenders ran out of fuel. Joey Logano was able to survive this chaos and secure the win.

While talking about the race results in his podcast, JGR’s No:11 Toyota driver Denny Hamlin admitted that there is good horsepower advantage TRD and Chevy cars have over the Ford cars. He asserted that the less hp helped Joey Logano to secure the win as he was able to conserve more of the gas compared to its rivals.

Look at the cars that ran out first, it was Chevys, then it was Toyotas, then the Fords were last to run out. So, when you have more horsepower, you typically run out of gas quicker because you use more and more fuel.

In the same podcast Hamlin also highlighted that the fact that Logano was racing slow in the end for top-15 before the overtime drama started also helped him in his late run for the win. Hamlin conforming the Toyota’s hp advantage over Ford wasn’t a wise move as it would help it’s rivals to plan better for it from now.

Denny Hamlin explains how he tried to settle a beef with Joey Logano during the race

On lap 153 of the race Denny Hamlin made contact with Joey Logano. This cost the Ford driver significant speed and he was dropped down to P15. To settle any potential beef during a delay mid-way to the race, he texted Logano. But the two times champion wasn’t ready to let it slide.

He responded quickly by saying, ‘F*ck you, look at the SMT.’ He’s like, ‘Have you looked?’ And I said, ‘No, but I know when I was hitting you and when I got hit. So, I’ll go back and look at it, but certainly I can tell you that I started to release off of you and I got pummeled into the corner.’ I was there. It all worked out for him. He had a great day.
Denny Hamlin said.

Loagno before the break showed his frustration for the incident by giving him the bird while driving alongside him and was seen ranting via his team radio. It would be interesting to see if the beef between the two will continue in the coming races.
