The NASCAR community is mourning the death of Hall of Famer Ned Jarrett, the father of 1999 champion Dale Jarrett.

Just two weeks after the tragic passing of two times champion Kyle Busch, another death has shocked the NASCAR community. Ned Jarrett, the Hall of Famer, passed away at the age of 93. He was one of the most respected racers the sport has ever seen and has a solid legacy, as racing family.

Both his sons, Glenn Jarrett and Dale Jarrett were stock car racing drivers with the latter being the 1999 Cup champion. Dale and Ned were only the second father-son duo to make into the Hall of Fame, after Lee and Richard Petty. The news of the death was announced by the family via a statement on social media.

With profound sadness, the family of NASCAR Hall of Fame driver and radio/tv personality, Ned Jarrett, announces his passing on Thursday, June 4, 2026. He died peacefully of natural causes at his home in Newton, N.C. with his family by his side.

The family highlighted how the legendary racer was a devout Christian and loving family man, who had a positive impact of most of the people he has seen in his life. The community will surely miss the oldest living Cup champion.

Our father was a devout Christian and a devoted, loving, family man. He was a friend to everyone he met and NASCAR’s oldest living champion. By all accounts, he was a true NASCAR legend.

NASCAR President Steve O’Donnell pays his respect for Ned Jarrett

The president of NASCAR, Steve O’Donnell, shared a heartfelt tribute on the death with a public statement. He highlighted how despite having a Gentleman demeanor, Jarrett was one of the fierce a competitor the sport has ever seen and how he carved a legacy in all national divisions of the sports with his triumphs.

Despite his calm demeanor, ‘Gentleman’ Ned Jarrett was as fierce a competitor as NASCAR has ever seen. His on track accomplishments speak for themselves with wins and championships across several NASCAR divisions. His off the track persona that separated Ned from his peers. He was as kind as his nickname indicated.

Furthermore, he highlighted how the veteran has been one of the best ambassadors the sport has ever scene for the last six decades. His passing leaves a massive vacuum that went be filled easily and the whole racing community is grieving the death.

Ned was an outstanding ambassador for the sport for more than six decades and he will be dearly missed. On behalf of the France family and all of NASCAR, I offer my deepest condolences to all of Ned’s family and friends on the loss of a NASCAR legend.

The sport would never forget the contribution the Jarrett’s made to the sport and the legacy of the Jarrett family would be remembered for a long time. it would be interesting to see how the community is going to pay their respect this race weekend at Michigan.
