The NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Roval was the chaotic and challenging race it was predicted to be, that saw championship favorite Kyle Larson pulling off a staller performance to secure the race win. The 29th career win of Larson also marked a disappointing playoff elimination of Alex Bowman, who was disqualified by NASCAR.
The No:48 car of Alex Bowman failed in the post-race weigh-in as the car was underweight. This was a huge infraction and NASCAR had no choice, but to impose the rules. The bad luck for Bowman helped two times Cup champion Joey Logano to get the playoff spot instead, giving him another chance to fight for the title.
Alex Bowman told me after the race, when he launched off the curb early in the race it was the hardest he’s ever hit anything. He said he hit it hard enough to damage a lot of stuff. Could something have broken off due to the incident to cause the weight to be low post-race? pic.twitter.com/iKdT7yKeQN

Hedrick Motorsports has now responded to the DQ via a statement. They acknowledge the unfortunate news and pointed out that they will appeal the process if after reviewing the whole race they find the case of the wight-loss. So, Joey Logano can’t yet celebrate his R-8 entry.
Michael McDowell’s dash cam video might have the secret to solving the issue
Following the race, a NASCAR fan named Andrew shared a video clip of Front Row Motorsports driver Michael McDowell’s car that shows some parts getting lose from Bowman’s car. When the No:48 Chevy hit the curbing, a pile of dust and something with can be seen coming out.

It is not clear what happened in the particular instant and HMS needs more than the short video clip to prove a damage occurred like that seen in video. If they can convince NASCAR, there is a huge possibility that Bowman can get back into the R-8.
Even if Bowman fails to make it into the next-round, HMS won’t be worried much. This is because of the fact that three of their drivers in Kyle Larson, William Byron and Chase Elliott are in the R-8, contending for the championship.
