The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at Iowa Speedway saw another nightmare run from the No:5 Chevy team of Defending champion Kyle Larson. He finished the race P33, after getting involved in a wreck in the first half of the race, ruining his hopes of ending the disappointing winless streak that has been now extended to 47, unreal number for a top HMS driver.

The tow times champion had the best shot to get back to winning ways, as he started the race at P2 behind pole sitter Ryan Blaney and till the 150th lap consistently ran inside the top-10. With 250 laps more left in the race, Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar spun out and brought out a caution, resulting in a restart.

The Chevy driver was chucked out of line by No:42 Toyota Camry of John Hunter Nemechek on the as the restarted and he found himself in a four wide battle coming to the next corner when he rejoined the pack. Riley Herbst at the bottom started moving up while approaching the corner and that resulted in the three cars outside him getting squeezed to the top.

It was Kyle Larson’s own teammate Alex Bowman that unfortunately squeezed the No:5 to the wall, causing significant race ruining damages for both the Chevy’s. The veteran driver was beyond furious with the JHN over the wreck and shared his mind via radio rant, while he was on his way to the pit-road to park the car.

He was heard asking his spotter if Nemechek was ‘not able to hold a straight line like normal’ in a furios tone. The veteran was told that the Legacy Motor Club driver made a mistake as he ‘downshifted and it got stuck in neutral.’ This infuriated the veteran more, as such a silly mistake is not expected from a Cup driver as he responded, ‘Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Professional.’

Kyle Larson ranted about new NASCAR rule change ahead of the race

One of the major rule changes that came to NASCAR from the Iowa weekend was the stage break caution rule change. A natural caution with in the ten laps of the scheduled break would be considered the stage break, giving opportunity have more green flag racing. Larson is really happy about the change, as the system used before was really bad.

I think it’s good because, dude, it ***** like for all of us when we’re out there, and you get a caution with five to go to the end of the stage. And they’re gonna try and do a one-lap shootout. So, you got all that time under caution and then do your one-lap shootout.

Kyle Larson said.

Further talking about the point, the veteran racer admitted that the sport was wasting 15 minutes of proper green flag races with the stage racing drama. He believes this will be the rights start to making overall race time shorter and more entertaining.

Then it takes 15 freaking minutes for them to do their stupid stage stuff. So, yeah, it’s just like roll on with it… This is a step in that direction, hopefully, to get the races to be shorter- not shorter distance, but shorter length. Yeah, just give the fans better excitement.

Kyle Larson added.

Majority of the drivers, just like the fans, wants to see end of manufactured drama during the race with the stage breaks. It would be interesting to see how the rule change might inspire the sport finally listen to the majority.
