Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin made some aggressive moves at Kansas, that cost him and his driver the win. One the final lap, he sent 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace to the wall, which killed him momentum, as well as his TRD teammates. Ex-Cup champion Jeff Gordon believes the JGR veteran might regret his decision in the future.
Hendrick Motorsports and VC Jeff Gordon benefited the most from the incident, as his driver Chase Elliott won the race sneaking into P1 amidst the chaos. Talking about the incident, the four times Bill France Cup winner pointed out that once he retires bad decisions might come to haunt you as a competitive racer and this weekend might be one of them for Denny Hamlin.
I can’t remember many of the ones I won, but I can tell you all the ones I lost. Those decisions haunt you, mis-shifts and bad choices on restarts and whatever it might be, especially if it was on your watch or in your hands.
Jeff Gordon said after the race at Kansas (Via On3.com).
He pointed out that the three times Daytona 500 champion could have shown some patience and use the bottom lane to overtake Bubba Wallace, instead of using his rival up. He also asserted that Elliott didn’t win just because of he was lucky, as the team made the right strategy calls with fitting new tires towards the end of the race.
I don’t know what was going to happen there if Denny wrapped the bottom instead of kind of using Bubba up, but I still think Chase had a great shot at it because of the new tires and the run he had going into three.
Jeff Gordon added.
In the same conversation, the veteran shared his praise for the Toyota veteran. He pointed out that the No:11 Toyota driver isn’t done with winning this year as well as in the immediate future. The former No:24 Chevy driver asserted that Hamlin will get more opportunities win races to redeem himself from the disappointment this week.
Yeah, Denny’s having a great year. He signed a new contract. I don’t think he’s done winning. But when you have the opportunity – he’s probably more disappointed that the cautions came out when he had the lead and wanted to see it finish out that way. But the way he’s running right now and the way that team is, I think he’s going to get some more opportunities.
Jeff Gordon asserted.
NASCAR insider explains how the Bubba Wallace clash is going to cost Denny Hamlin
In the Monday episode of The Teardown podcast, senior NASCAR journalist Jordan Bianchi shared his thoughts on the dramatic incident. He sees a lot of positives and negatives from the incident that cost both drivers the wins.

There are many in the racing community that unfairly accuses Denny Hamlin of racing his 23XI drover soft and giving the slack. This incident proves he doesn’t and race them aggressively as a racer not as their team owner. But that means he has to endure the monitory loss that comes with it.
This was driver versus driver, this wasn’t driver car owner versus driver. Depending on what everybody wants to accuse Denny of, favoring his own team over the team he drives for, here’s the evidence. This answers it all. This could potentially cost Denny significantly, monetarily.
Jordan Bianchi said via The Teardown podcast.
The incident showed how much of the competitor he is and how this uncompromising nature has been the root of his success in the sport. He has to remain the same in order to secure the maiden Cup title he desperately has been searching almost for over two decades.
