Hendrick Motorsports finally has all their drivers in the playoffs for the 2024 season after Alex Bowman secured his first win since 2022 on Sunday at Chicago Street race. He became the first regular NASCAR driver to win a street race with the help of an impressive strategy at the end of the race.

The win is really special for the No:48 team which has been under fire for a long time as they have been the most underwhelming HMS side compared to Kyle Larson, William Byron and Chase Elliott. Four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon, who is the vice-president of HMS, explained how significant the win is for Alex Bowman as his team.

He pointed out that the No:48 team has been fighting for a long-time to get some momentum on their side with a win and this win will be a great boost for them. Jeff Gordon reckons the success took a lot of weight of the drivers’ shoulders as they have been working really hard for this opportunity.

The 48 was just trying to find their stride, get some momentum going, so they've been working hard. It's not from a lack of effort, and so this is just a great boost, and I think takes a lot of weight off their shoulders. All four now in the playoff. That's huge for us at Hendrick Motorsports. Can't wait to see what they do next with this.

Jeff Gordon explains what made the race tricky for the drivers

The NASCAR legend was yet again impressed with the race product at Chicago downtown and pointed out that the people came in made it a special event. He asserted that just like in 2023, the weather made the event really tricky for the drivers.

Yeah, this is amazing. I mean, it's such a special event, you know, to be in downtown Chicago and see all the people that came out today. You know, the weather was tricky again, but that's what made it so tough for these drivers on track, and Alex did an amazing job.
Jeff Gordon said.

The HMS drivers have now placed them in a great position to challenge for the title with all four of them in the playoff and will be determined to be the first driver to get them team the championship in the Next-Gen era. It would be interesting to see how he would perform as the season progress.
