Joey Logano asserts he “goal is to win the championship all the time” despite struggles

The 2024 NASCAR Cup season hasn’t been great for two times champion Joey Logano. He came into the season with the hopes of redeeming himself from the poor title defence of 2023, but he failed to even be consistent top-10 finisher in the first half of the season. He did make a comeback as the season progressed with a win at Nashville.

But the No:22 Team Penske Ford Mustang drivers quintuple overtime win at Nashville was a product a wild pit-strategy and where he got lucky with the fuel load at the end. So, despite making it into the playoffs and getting more consistent, Joey Logano isn’t considered a championship contender this season. But the veteran has one goal always and that’s the ultimate prize.

While talking to the media at Richmond, admitted that it’s great that the No:22 team is in the playoff and asserted that making it into the last-16 isn’t his goal. His objective always has been the championship, and the playoff entry is just a steppingstone for him. Logano is working hard to find an advantage that can yield him a third title.  

I don't know that it changed the complexion of the season a whole bunch. We are in, which is great. The goal is not just to make the playoffs. The goal is to win the championship all the time. So that's one step of the steppingstones there.

Lats year the No:12 Ford driver Ryan Blaney won the championship after he peaked on the right time, late in the season and pulled of some clutch race wins. He is hoping to be productive like that and believes that with the progress his team has shown so far this season, it’s possible for them to peak on the right time.

We've just got to stay around long enough to take advantage of speed like the No:12 (of Ryan Blaney) did last year.

Team Penske has shown in the Next-Gen era that they are capable of peaking on the right moment by being patient with their development. So, it won’t be a surprise to many race fans, if Joey Logano produces a strong run late in the series to be in contention for the title.
