NASCAR will run it back and return to one of the better street race circuits in the sport’s calendar. As the grid rushes into preparations for the grand event, Team Penske star Joey Logano shares his opinions on the only race outside America this year. Logano, who has remained unsuccessful at a majority of the road course races, issues a bold statement on NASCAR’s expansion into Mexico.

NASCAR has continued to incorporate more street-style circuits, seeking to diversify its racing landscape beyond oval circuits. The thrill of racing around the narrow lanes provides great exhilaration and excitement to the fans and drivers alike. Moreover, running a race in Mexico proves that NASCAR is prepared to expand its horizons beyond America and potentially into new untapped locations.

Joey Logano, who has raced around Ovals for the majority of his life, believes that this expansion beyond America and street circuits is definitely out of the comfort zone of NASCAR. The Penske Star believes that this expansion is a great start to growing the sport and seeking new opportunities to expand their audience.

I think this definitely is stepping out of our comfort zone and when you do that, you usually grow and see other opportunities that come along with that so I think this is a good start.

Joey Logano told motorsport.com.

Logano raised uncertainity over where NASCAR would bring the great circus to next after Mexico. Regardless, racing in a new country has been going well for the sport as a whole, as the sport can now look into going to some different places. The No.22 driver also expressed his gratitude towards the Mexican fans who showcased great love for the sport despite ongoing tensions between the two nations.

Lord knows where we go from here. I don’t know. I think if this is a great success — and it seems so far it has been going very well — but if this can be successful, then yeah, we can pick up and move to some different places. Mexico made good sense to be able to do this. The fans are very excited about us being here.

Joey Logano comes clean on his poor performances at street circuits

Joey Logano lacks outright pace at the street circuits due to his exceptional understanding of the Ovals. While Logano has given it his all to succeed in the narrow lanes, his best finish comes at the Chicago Street course of P8. Now, the No.22 driver comes clean and accepts his shortcomings in performance at the street-style circuits in NASCAR.

Logano was questioned about the tactics required to emerge victorious at a street circuit. The Penske Star didn’t hesitate to accept that he was unaware of how to win races on a road course. The 35-year-old reckoned that he grew up racing around the short tracks of Oval circuits, which contributed to his failure on road courses. He added that winning at a street circuit required a lot of things to come together at the right time.

That’s a great question, If I knew the answer, I would have done it by now. Just, I think road course races — I grew up racing short track ovals. That’s what my roots are so you feel at home doing that. I just think it takes a lot of things to all come together.

Joey Logano noted.

Regardless of a potential poor outing in Mexico, Joey Logano has surely remained strong in his performances this year. The 35-year-old just needs to work on his road course skills and ensure that he keeps the rivals at bay through the narrow lanes. Logano has to prepare well for the main event on Sunday and aim to achieve a great start to the race to maximize his winning chances.
