Joey Logano made his official debut in the Cup Series all the way back on 14th September 2008. Since then, Logano has been through massive ups and downs in his racing career. The reigning world champion amassed an astonishing 37 race wins and three championship titles over his career. Now, with the upcoming race at Dover International Speedway, the 35-year-old is set to shatter a massive NASCAR record which was previously held by Richard Petty.
Joey Logano will officially have 600 race starts under his belt, as not many NASCAR drivers race through their lives to have raced on so many events. Notably, fewer than 40 drivers boast this feat, with Richard Petty being the youngest ever to cross the 600 mark all the way back in 1973, when he was just 35 years and 7 months old. Now, the #22 driver has broken Petty’s previous record by a narrow margin.
During the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400, Joey Logano will be 35 years and one month old. This means that Logano will beat Richard Petty’s previous record by a margin of around six months and a couple of days. This record might not sound much at first, but the Penske star boasts a lot of ‘youngest driver’ records in his career as he definitely wouldn’t mind achieving this as well.
Denny Hamlin recently crossed the 700-race mark, and Joey Logano is likely to continue racing in NASCAR to achieve that feat as well. The reigning Cup Series champion is already the youngest driver to ever achieve a Cup Series victory after being the youngest to achieve a pole position as well.
Richard Petty had 1185 race starts to his name, which might not be the goal for Logano before considering exiting. Hence, the 35-year-old has many years left in his tank if he wishes to achieve many more records under his name.
