Two times NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano recently came under fire for his comments regarding Kyle Larson getting waiver from NASCAR after missing the Coca-Cola 600. The HMS driver couldn’t make it to Charlotte from the Indy 500 attempt in time to take over the No:5 car due to rain cutting the race short.

Kyle Larson needs a waiver from NASCAR to remain eligible for the title. But with the rules regarding the waiver being complicated and it has resulted in debates among the racing community on whether the 2021 Cup champion deserves a seat. Joey Logano while talking about the drama pointed out that, the rules are not back and white as it seems and it’s grey area.

This caused a backlash in the racing community as some interpreted his message as saying Larson doesn’t deserve a waiver. Now Logano has come out clearing the air over it and pointed out that he wants NASCAR to give Larson the waiver. He insists that his words were once again mis-interpreted by the people.

If anyone listened to what I said yesterday, I never picked a side. I was pointing out the tough decision that NASCAR is in. Since words have been twisted yet again… here’s what I think… What Larson did for Motorsports was amazing, and he should get the waiver.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. also feels Kyle Larson deserves a waiver

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. also gave his verdict on the debate and pointed out that he reckons the 2021 Cup champion deserves a waiver and will get one. He highlighted the racing prowess and the success Larson had in NASCAR and believes he earned the opportunity.

I think he gets the waiver. I mean, I don’t think that we should be debating whether Kyle should get a waiver or not. Kyle Larson will do enough this year as a driver, you know, in terms of wins and success and performance, to deserve an opportunity to race for a championship. If you missed a race, missed a couple races, whatever. Why you missed them? I don’t care.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

Kyle Larson does have earned the right to get waiver, though him choosing the Indy 500 over Coke 600 wasn’t 100% the right call. But at the end of the day, NASCAR only benefited from the HMS drivers’ double duty attempt and the waiver should be a way to pay him back.
