Joey Logano has been at the sharp end of the field since his debut in the series. On the other hand, he has had an array of teammates alongside him, but Brad Keselowski has aided the former to become a better driver altogether. This led the No.22 driver to reveal that the 40-year-old helped him a lot in order to get in the groove at the Richmond Raceway.
Penske has been a favorite among drivers due to their recent upward trajectory in the field. Its drivers, Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney have been the reigning champions in the past few seasons. However, before them, Brad Keselowski was at the helm of the team and won his maiden championship in 2012. Owing to his experience, the former No.2 driver helped his young teammate establish his authority at Richmond.
There's a few things that kind of go into that. Honestly, I learned a lot from Brad[Keselowski], when he was my teammate on how to get around that place. I was able to use that for quite a few years. I think [crew chief] Paul[Wolfe] puts together a really good car on tracks that have more wore-out surfaces [and] tires wear out quickly. That helps.Joey Logano said in an interview with Fox Sports
Subsequently, the 34-year-old explained that he learned a lot from Keselowski’s driving techniques. He further explained that Richmond has a high degradation surface, which his crew chief and teammate helped him master it. On the other hand, these learnings are still used as Logano recently finished second at the Richmond Raceway and would like to go one better at the Cook 400 this weekend.
I think we kind of understand that place pretty well. We've consistently had top-five cars there. I haven't won there as much as we wanted to, but we've been in the hunt every time.Joey Logano said
Joey Logano gives his verdict on Richmond’s tire strategy
Richmond has been a great playing ground for the former Cup Series champion. However, this weekend, NASCAR has introduced the choice of option tires for the drivers which could make the race a tad bit more interesting as drivers would have the option to go for a strategic gamble.

While multiple drivers seemed excited at the prospect of a strategic battle ensuing in the field, the No.22 shared a similar conclusion. He compared the last time NASCAR ran option tires and claimed that there were no drawbacks to the option tires. However, things could be different this time as the sub-one mile racetrack is high on tire degradation.
When you look at [North] Wilkesboro when we did that, you had a track that just has no fall off, so it was just faster the whole time. Not to be surprised. But Richmond is a place where it wears out tires. It could be different there, and none of us will know until we get there. I don't know. We'll have to kind of wait and see.Joey Logano said
Despite such intricacies, the Penske driver is aiming to win the championship this year. Thus, Logano would be ready for the challenge of the playoffs and reclaim the top spot he once reigned upon.
