Joey Logano has been unable to keep up with the winning momentum of the 2024 season. Logano came into the year as a defending Cup Series Champion and hoped to win one this year as well. The Penske star’s start to the season was challenging, and he wasn’t quite as competitive as he had hoped for.

Still, he achieved a shocking position in the playoffs and is now on the verge of making it into the Champion-4. The #22 driver now needs a miracle result in Martinsville to be eligible for the title fight at Phoenix.

The start to the 2025 season was insignificant for Joey Logano as he could only pick off one win throughout the year at Texas Motor Speedway back in May. Since then, Logano has suffered from multiple problems.

However, in the final races ahead of the playoffs, Denny Hamlin helped the Penske star greatly and enabled his entry into the playoffs. Since then, the #22 driver has consistently achieved good points and cleared the rounds ahead of the championship-4, except for occasional difficulties.

Still, Joey Logano does not have a good enough point cushion to make it into the Phoenix race without a win. Now, the Penske star opened up on the reasons that caused him such difficulties to excel in the playoffs.

Logano explained that he was in a tough spot right now, as he did not do well in the regular season. The defending champion explained that if he had around a 30-point cushion, life would’ve been much easier for him.

Joey Logano continued that he could have made it into the Championship-4 with mediocre finishes in the playoffs if he had achieved a good enough point cushion ahead of the playoffs. However, his poor results in the regular season are providing him with difficulties this year. Logano insisted that all the races and results of the regular season matter a lot, even though it seems insignificant at first.

The playoffs are tough, and we’re in this position that we’re in because we didn’t do good enough during the regular season. That’s the bottom line. If we had 30-plus more playoff points, which some had, we’d be sitting there saying, ‘Boy, we could point our way in,’ even with having a mediocre first two races of the round. We’d still have a chance because all of those races matter.

Joey Logano reveals the ‘only chance’ he has to make it into the Championship-4

Certainly, Joey Logano will need a miracle to achieve a race win. The 35-year-old will have a great shot to fight for the win, especially since he’s starting the Martinsville race from P4. However, Logano pondered over the only chance he has to move up the Round of 8 and into the championship finale. For now, winning chances are very slim for the #22 driver, but they are not none.

Joey Logano recalled that he did not have a good enough regular season and hence now had to win in order to move up the rounds. Logano declared that he wasn’t out of the battle yet, and he still had a great chance.

However, he only had one avenue to make it into the Champion-4, that is by winning the Xfinity 500. Despite difficulties up ahead, the 35-year-old pointed out that it was simple enough and that he would give it his all to emerge victorious.

But we didn’t have a really good regular season, so now we’re put in a spot to where we have to win. We’re not out. We still have a great chance, but we only have really one avenue of getting there. That’s the difference. That’s why we are where we are. It’s simple enough.

Team Penske hopes to ideally have both Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney make it into the playoffs. However, currently, Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson are having a point advantage in the standings and will make it in if neither of the Penske drivers wins the race. As such, the race will definitely be enticing and cutthroat, especially among the remaining drivers in the Round of 8.
