The NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega last weekend witnessed some wild moments, but the most controversial of them all was Joey Logano’s radio meltdown. He went on a profanity laced radio rant, calling out teammate Austin Cindric for mistakes at the end of stage to that cost him valuable playoff points. The reigning champion was called out by many, including MLB Hall of Famer Chipper Jones.

Joey Logano addressed the criticism at North Wilkesboro in a media session ahead of the All-Star race. He was non-cholent about the criticism Chipper Jones on social media and admitted that he doesn’t expect such comments from a former professional athlete. The Ford driver seems to indicate if the roles were reversed, he would have been more careful about the emotions of the athlete.

I’m surprised that a professional athlete would act in that manner because he’s been through it. I am very careful to form an opinion on an athlete by their emotions or the way they play the game because I know from being in that position, when there’s that much on the line in a competitive environment, you act a certain way because you’re out there to win. And then you got to be able to shut that off.

Joey Logano said at North Wilkesboro.

Then Joey Logano levelled up his critical comments a bit, accusing Jones of disregarding the challenges of being a professional athlete, which he perfectly understands, and act like some kind of a keyboard warier. He even claimed that the baseball legend is trying to become relevant again with the comments. It’s an audacious remark to make about an eight-time MLB All-Star.

I would have assumed him being the athlete he is and was, that he would understand that and not mouth off on social media like somebody that’s never played the sport before. It’s surprising to me. All I can think is he’s trying to be relevant still or something like that.

Joey Logano added.

Joey Logano reveals Austrin Cindric broke the rules at Talladega

In the same media session, Logano explained how there is a manufacturer and team rule in place at Dega, that mandates drivers to work with each other. By checking up early, Cindric broke these rules and this made the veteran furious, resulting in the now infamous radio rant.

There’s the (manufacturer) rules, there’s the team rules and you try to put these all in place to try to give your cars the best chance to win. Everyone knows superspeedways you’ve got to work together. … The rules that were set in place weren’t followed. That ticked me off quite a bit…

Joey Logano said.

The teammate has already talked about the dramatic situation from Sunday, explaining each other point view and deciding that they will do everything to make sure the situation doesn’t occur again. It would be interesting to see how the relationship between the two will evolve after the controversy.
